I woke up and checked the time. Exactly 3am. I felt this weird aura as I stood from my bed. It was dark. But I could see. I walked down the stairs and no one was there. I walked outside and searched, nothing. I sighed and started walking towards the house. "Where do you think you're going missy?" I froze and slowly turned around.

She sat on the windowsill. I smiled. "Kitty!" She laughed at that, not physically , but I could hear her. "Yes, a kitty. Now missy I'm Luna and I am your familiar. I will stick by your side for the rest of your life. You must be Emberlyn." I nodded my head rapidly and she said. "Tonight will be your first shift." I furrowed my eyebrows. "Shift? No one told me about a shift." She jumped off the windowsill and walked toward me. "Well, you're a half blood. Which means you are a witch by blood. So you my dear need more protection than a regular trained witch. You must hide in plain sight. And that means that you shift, shift into a familiar like me, but you can willingly switch back and forth." I smiled. "That's so cool!" She laughed again. "Okay so to start the shift, I need you to shut your eyes and use your essence. Picture yourself as a cat, what do you look like? What do you sound like?" I shut my eyes and lifted my hands, letting my essence out. I imagined what I looked like. Similar to Luna but not exactly alike. I felt myself slip away and I opened my eyes to see Luna staring at me. "Not bad Ember, not bad. You're a nice looking. Cat." I laughed and looked at my paws.

"I did it Luna! I did it!" She licked my fur. "Yes you did Ember. Now go rest. You did good." I rushed to the door, noticing that the door was shut and huffed. "Shit." Luna laughed. "Okay, now imagine yourself, but less furry. Do the same as before with the essence." I did as told and felt myself shift back. "Woah! That's cool!" She laughed. "It is, now let me in! It's freezing out here!" I opened the door for her and she ran inside. I followed her up to my room and we both fell asleep under my covers.
