I knocked on Marie's door. She opened it a few seconds later and smiled at me. I pointed to my ears then the door hoping she would understand.
"No, nobody will be able to hear us- I mean me." She said as she sat down on her bed.
"Well that's good," I said aloud. She looked shocked then gave me a megawatt smile. "Yeah I can talk. Just wanted a change in my life since, everything. Don't tell anybody though!" I said as I sat down next to her.
"Of course not honey. Do you eventually plan on speaking? You have a lovely voice by the way. Very authoritative." She complimented.
"Thank you. You and Joseph are the only ones here that have heard it. I hope at least. Yes I do plan on speaking after I'm sure my family won't be able to find me. Half the reason in pretending to be mute is because I thought it would be cool and half because they would definitely recognize my voice," I said as I hugged my alpha/mother kinda.
"Alright honey. I understand." She said rubbing my hair. This was the kind of family I wanted. Speaking of that...
"If you don't mind me asking what happened to your mate?" I asked quietly. She sighed before looking down at me.
"He died. He had been badly burned in that fire but he was healing. He tried to protect me even though I was perfectly capeable of protecting myself even though..." She trailed off as she looked slightly sad.
"You're pregnant!?" I squealed as I picked the thought out if her mind. She bit her lip and nodded. I hugged her again and gave her a bright smile. "Why is that a sad thing?"
"Because they will never know their father. And yes I can sense that it's twins. Call it a wolf thing," she said as a tear slipped out. I wiped it off and hugged her again. She started to sob into my shoulder like a child as I rubbed her back in reverse parental order. "I almost lost them because of all the stress and pain of loosing my mate. My wolf wouldn't let then die though, she wanted to have at least a small piece of our mate with us." She blubbered. I just kept silent and rubbed her back.
"I'm sorry Dove. I'm usually very good about keeping that stuff in. I guess the pregnancy is starting to take hold," she shrugged as she wiped her eyes which now had mascara and eyeliner running down them. Not that I minded if she got anything on me, she needed to get it all out.
"That's all okay Luna. So how far along are you?" I asked eagerly. I loved babies.
"A bit less than 3 months last time I checked. The pack doesn't know yet so I guess we both have to keep secrets okay?" She asked looking me in the eyes. I dropped them and nodded.
I walked out of the room and checked to see if anybody had listened in on our conversation. I saw Lucas walk out from a door slightly to my left but he didn't give any indication that he had heard. I guess we are good.
I decided to go find a book to read in that library I've been dying to get into. Some books were new and some looked like they could be as old as Axton. There were even tiny books made for babies or toddlers to hold in a little stack in the corner. I just browsed the shelves until I found a title I recognized. Dragon Slippers.
I had read the entire series in 8th grade and it was great. I decided to read it again and managed the find the other two books after an hour of being in there. They should really organize this better.
"There you are Dove! Have you been in there the entire time?" Axton asked as he hugged me. I could get used to this.
I nodded and showed him my books. He laughed and patted the top of my head. Grr. "Why don't you go- actually I'll come with you to out those away in your room then we will go to dinner. Hungry?" My stomach growling gave the answer.
He went up with me and I'm glad he did because we saw Angus step out of a door at the opposite side of the hallway from my room. Axton was slightly behind me so he didn't see him at first and started stalking towards me. Idiot. I grabbed Axton and pulled him closer to me. Then he realized and went right back though the door.
"Damn him," I hears Axton mumble. I walked to my room and threw the books on my bed. "My mother has invited some people from the town here. So you can meet them I guess but if you don't want to we don't have to," Axton assured me as we descended the stairs. I paused for a second but then continued walking. No need to draw attention. Might as well deal with the questioning Brits.
I spoke too soon. One of the new people I saw sitting at the table made me want to scream, run away and barf at the same time. My fathers brother, my uncle, Charlie.
