Lightning

The light strikes,

Leaving a reminiscent trace of its fidelity.

The ozone catches its breath,

Diluting the air, making it safe.

I sat on a root.

The cacophony of thunder sounds in my vicinity.

I realise this place is greatly precarious; and I'm not safe.

I jump, I try to run,

But I am far too late.

The light strikes again,

And I feel every nerve in me writhe in agony

My skin bursts into flames,

And I finally realise what I've thought wrong:

Light is never slow, it is swifter than time.

I feel droplets fall, making the world ever so green.

But yet I still feel a pulse of adrenaline in me.

Am I really dead?

My eyes finally open.

I hear the thunder beyond the void of darkness in my chamber.

I see that I am safe where I am.

I now know that the storm is outdoors

And I am safe inside.

It was only a dream.

Grey skies bring out the truth in us.
