Volume 3 Chapter 5: The Noble Duty Of The Killer Assassins

After a while, we gathered the 4 assassins in the main hall and tied them up with chains at the same circular pillar as the bandits from before. Is this going to be the norm now? Let's see, two of them are guys and the other two including the one I fought, are girls. From the guys at the left to the girls at the left, their levels are 39, 42, 40 and 45. So the girl I fought has the highest level, huh? I mean I guess I should've expected that. I take a chair and place it in front of them. Time to ask them some questions although based on how quiet they've been, I doubt they'd answer anything I ask. But nonetheless I have to get some answers.

"So who sent you?" I ask them.
"....."

Nothing, huh? If I could, I don't want to resort to any desperate measures. Just who are these guys?

"Aito-sama. If I may, I believe I know who they are." Nakano says to me.
"Wait, really?"
"Yes, I believe I've heard of them based on the crest that they have on their hoods." She says as she points at their shiny brown starburst-like crest.
"Who are they?"
"I believe they are called Nova Bronze."

The guy at the left then twitched his face. I guess Nakano's right or that name means something at least.

"What are they? An enemy group?"
"No, quite the opposite actually, they are a private security team that have sworn to protect the royal family from danger." Mizuha interjects.
"But I believe there are three ranks to them. As my father said, there are Nova Bronze, Silver Moon and finally Golden Sun. But the Silver Moon and the Golden Sun groups can only be given orders and missions by my father, the king himself." Nakano explains.

So that's why these guys are sent here. Because they couldn't have access to the upper two groups.

"Are these assassins really strong-nya?" Chinatsu asks.
"Well, the Nova Bronze group are really only used for simple infiltration missions. But even the lowest level of them is level 35. As for the Silver Moons, they are definitely out of our league, we would easily be defeated by them but I do believe that someone as strong as Aito-san could defeat them. And the Golden Suns, well I haven't heard much about them but I know only the strongest and the fastest are chosen to be them. I don't even think Aito-san would have much of a chance against them as a group." Mizuha finishes.

Oh, they're that strong, huh? Well, I don't have to worry about them for now. The question is, why would a security personnel, dedicated to protecting the princess, attack her?

"Hey, why did you attack her if you were supposed to protect her?" I ask.
"..."

Still nothing. Okay, let's give them a little push.

"Did you turn corrupt? Were you bribed? Were you that desperate for mon-."
"We would never betray the king!" The level 40 assassin girl exclaimed.
"Then give us some answers, I bet it'll answer any questions you guys have too."
"..."
"Please, tell us, why would loyal guards such as you would attack the princess?"
"..We were told that the princess was mind controlled." The level 45 assassin girl I fought said.
"Eh, mind controlled? Are you serious?" I say, genuinely surprised.
"So you tried to take her by force." Mizuha said.
"That's crazy." Chinatsu said.

But we don't really have any way to prove that she's not mind controlled though.

"That's impossible." Nakano interjected.
"Eh, why?" I ask.
"Because my bloodline are impervious to mind control."

....What?

"Yeah, it's a family secret. Well, I guess it's not a secret anymore."
