May was driving again. I sat in the back of the SUV while Bridgette took the passenger seat.

The ride was pretty quiet. May had greeted me and asked how my night had gone but after that, she had remained silent.

She didn't seem to be in good spirits and I honestly didn't want to ask because it wasn't my place.

Also, she looked as exhausted as Bridgette did and if Bridgette was right, it was my fault.

I honestly didn't mind the silence, it gave me time to think.

Not about the craziness of becoming the new luna of the Silvercrest pack.

No.

Somthing way scarier.

How I was going to tell Uncle Victor and Aunt Sarah that I had been keeping all this from them.

They would definitely freak when they found out I had spent the night at a man's house.

Even if he was their alpha.

The car stopped and I noticed that we had stopped right in the middle of town outside the alpha's offices.

Next thing I knew the back door was opening and Tristan came into view. Or rather, his back.

"Tell him I want the report by tonight. No excuses." He barked at a young man I didn't recognise.

"Yes alpha." The young man let out hurriedly.

He caught my eye and his eyes widened.

Tristan snapped his fingers. "I'm over here, Simon."

"Y-yes, sorry, alpha. I just err..."

"What?"

He gestured to me. "The luna -"

"Is none of your concern right now. As far as you're concerned, you didn't even see her here today." He told him in a stern voice.

"Y-yes alpha."

"Good, now get back to work, I want the rogue who tried to kill my brother found and brought to me."

Tristan got into the car.

I stared at him.

"What?" He demanded.

"You look terrible." I remarked.

Like, Bridgette and May, he looked like he hadn't slept in days.

"Gee, thanks." He reached into his pocket and reached forward to hand something to Bridgette.

It was a flash drive.

"Check those out later and tell me what you think." He told her.

"What's on here?" She asked.

Tristan opened his mouth but then turned to look at me.

"Confidential information." He muttered.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. The alpha didn't trust his luna. Of course.

"May, there's a diplomatic meeting in Calhoun territory next week and my grandmother is to attend as an ambassador. She requested you to accompany her." Tristan announced before taking out his phone and beginning to type something.

I saw May's hands tighten around the steering wheel.

"Um - of course alpha. Will I be making this trip alone... er... with her?"

I could understand why she was nervous. Nana Francessca is pretty intense. And judging by the way she had treated May yesterday, I'm guessing they weren't the best of friends.
