Graduation day.
I've never been more ready for anything in my life. I was prepared I think.
"You do know this is a totally new chapter in our lives? We have to be adults now man." Opal says to me as we enter the gymnasium which was set up for our graduation.
"Yeah, we are going to be so far from each other, Michigan for you, and I stay here," I say making us both pull sad faces.
"Save the sappy sad stuff for later." She groans nudging my arm. I laugh along with her and we go our separate ways to find our assigned seats.
The assembly goes on forever but my mind was long gone. I was picturing me and Jonah in Hawaii, on our own, enjoying our final 'kid' days.
When the assembly finally ends, I rush out to find my family and Jonah. Luckily I run into Corbyn and Dad. Dad's eyes are filled to the brim with tears making my eyes swell aswell.
"Look at you, all grown up." My dad says as a tear falls down his face. I hug him tight. "I love you so much my angel." He pulls away and kisses my cheek. "Go, I think Mary wanted to congratulate you." I nod and walk of.
"Baby look at you." Jonah says as he pulls me into him by the waist. I blush at his words per usual. "Where did my cute lil' neighbor go?" He says with a pouty face.
I lean towards him and peck his lips.
"Still here, and will hopefully see you in an hour or so? I ask placing both my hands on his chest.
"I'm all yours. See you in a bit." He kisses my lips with a smile.
I head over to my dad and brother who are talking to Opal and her family. I sling my arm around her shoulders when I realize her eyes are glossy.
"If you cry, I'll cry," I say on the verge of crying. She laughs and wipes her tears before they fall. I'm going to miss her like crazy. Jonah and I are leaving for Hawaii tomorrow, so today is my last day with my best friend and we can't even spend it together.
"I love you lots, Natalia. Call me every day." She says as she parts some me. I blow her a kiss and she catches it making me giggle.
"Okay, let's go home." My dad says and we make our way out of the gym and to the car.
Once home, I leap out of the car and go to my room. I change into a pair of shorts and a random shirt I yank off my hanger. I peep out my door to see if Jonah is home and I see all the cars in the driveway so I make my way over.
"Hello, Mary," I say with a bright smile.
"Hello dear." She says as she hugs me tight. "I know who you are here for." She grins and nods towards the stairs. I smile and head up.
My steps slow when I hear a heated argument from behind Jonah's door. I know I shouldn't, but I can't stop myself.
"No, leave Nat out of it, I'll do it." I hear him groan as something collides with something. "Fucking hell." I hear him groan. I stride into his room and look at him.
"You okay?" I ask him and he nods cautiously.
"Um, yeah." He answers nervously. I plop down on his bed.
"No, what's up?" I say. "We've been dating for seven months, I know when you aren't okay."
"It's nothing don't worry about it." He smiles even more nervously and sits down beside me on his bed.
"What do you want the person to leave me out of? Or what are you going to do for them?" I ask specifically.
"Nothing, babe it's nothing." He says trying to get me to drop it. He lays back and covers his face with his hands.
"Baby," I say to him making him peek between his fingers and grin. "Tell me." I pout. He leans up and kisses me. I push him away and look at him curiously. "What? Are you a dealer or something?" I joke.
His face immediately pales and he chokes on air.
"Jonah?" I say moving away from him. "What did you do?"
"Nothing. I didn't do anything." He says moving closer to me.
"What do I have to do with it?" I ask harshly. "Don't lie."
"He just, he's threatening me, if I don't get this done then, he'll come after you." He admits looking at me sadly. "But it doesn't change anything."
"How long?" I press.
"Several months." He sighs. "Can we stop talking about this?"
"No! You lied to me basically our entire relationship. Is that where you went after Hawaii?" I say unable to stop my tears from falling.
"Babe." He tries to wipe my tears.
"Stop," I say, not sure if I'm ready for what's to come, but I say it anyway. "We're done."
The words linger as none of us move or speak. The room falls silent as I try to breathe.
"You can't do that." He says upset.
"Why not Jonah?" I cry. "You've been lying to me," I say remembering all his late nights.
"Where were you?" I asked. "It's pretty freaking late."
"Don't worry about it." He mumbled. I heard more shuffling as I saw a shirt fly somewhere around the room. Soon after, I felt the bed dip beside me. "Sorry I woke you up." He said as he kissed my cheek. "It started to snow like crazy on my way here."
"I have morning breath Jo," I said trying to push him away.
"I don't care." He said. "If I wanna kiss you, I'll kiss you."
"Well I'm tired and I don't want to kiss you," I said trying to turn my back on him.
"Aw, babe don't be like that." He groaned as he flipped me back around to face him.
"Jonah, it's a school night and believe it or not, I would love to maintain my grades and 100% attendance and zero lates so please, let me sleep," I muttered getting kind of annoyed with him.
"Sorry, don't be mad at me please." He said as his playful mood completely left.
"How could I not be mad? My boyfriend is on some secret mission he won't tell me about and he returns home at 1 AM."
"I was with-" He started but I cut him off.
"And don't lie saying you were with Nathan or Carter because Opal and Nathan were on a date and when she went to Nathan's, Carter was there. So where were you actually?" I asked getting even more annoyed as I sat up.
"I told you, don't worry about it." He said again trying his best to put it off.
"Okay let's say I go out, I don't tell you where and I show up to your house at 1 AM. You would be mad wouldn't you?" I say as I cross my arms.
"Yeah I would, but it's not the same thing." He said shaking his head. He is unbelievable.
"Alright, I give up. I'm gonna sleep wake up and pretend you didn't come here at 1 AM." I mumbled as I threw myself back under the covers.
Before I fell asleep I heard Jonah mutter something in my ear.
"It's not that easy princess, I wish I could tell you but I don't want to drag you into my problems because shit gets messy. Just give me some time, I promise you will find out soon." He said before he kissed my cheek. "Goodnight."
I storm out of his room and lean against his wall, tears blurring my vision. Behind me, Jonah destroys everything around him.
The more things that collide, the quicker the tears fall down my face.
We built a whole relationship on lies.
It was never love.
