Ms. Snob meets Mr. Intimidating

Chapter 8: Once Upon A Time

Jace invited JM to dine with us in our house.

I'm not surprised that they got along too well like BROTHERS because boys are naturally comfortable with each other. Once they shake teach other's hands, they're already friends. Unlike us girls, some of us have this trust issues, we tend to think twice before making friends. Well, the latter works for me. I really have trust issues. Maybe because I think, I already met the half of the bitches' population.

My mom cooked our favorite grilled salmon because Jace got high grades last semester and as a celebration for getting a scholarship. Jace introduced JM to our parents as 'our' new friend. My parents are so ecstatic to welcome him while their eyes are slightly looking at me.

The dinner went well and surprisingly, JM didn't talked to me and instead his attention is on my brother's womanizing stories and my parents' little chit chat. I seldom join the conversation but I opted not to. I decided to go up and find my solitude in my room.

Jace's POV

When Kate decided to take a rest, JM and I decided to get Jack Daniels from my secret hiding place. I feel so comfortable talking with my new found friend. He seemed so carefree in life. His parents are so cool dealing with him.

"Mind if I ask you why Kate seemed to be uncomfortable with guys?" JM asked. I know everyone wants to crack that code.

"She's really not that uncomfortable. Let me tell you her story." Sorry Kate, I hope you won't get mad at me for centuries.

"Back when we were at Thompson University..."

Kate was Chemical Engineering major. She really loves Chemistry and her first year in Thompson was a bliss. She had a boyfriend named Jared. He was her first boyfriend from being a certified single. Kate is conservative -- no she is just being responsible. On the other hand, Jared is the school's MVP and a hearthrob who takes the same program as her. He is every girls' dreamboy like his fans usually say.

Their first year being together was so rough. Kate was being bullied by Jared's fangirls. One time, while Kate was in the lab, her classmate 'accidentally' poured the Silver Nitrate in her arms while it is supposed to be used only in drops. As a result, Kate had a big bruise-like color in her arms that stayed for almost a week. She got disgusted looks from the fangirls and other people who passed by her. She rarely had a friend because of this.

With an IQ so high that it almost reaches the genius-level, she got a full scholarship in Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). A famous professor was invited to conduct a seminar in Thomspon where every Chemical Engineering students were present. When the professor started to ask the students and even the faculty members for any questions or whatsover, no one had the guts to ask. They were so intimidated with the professor where everyone's mouth is gaping at him.

Until Katherine decided to ask a random question that challenged both of  their curiosity so she was asked what is she going to do if she was asked to study in MIT. She just said that she wanted to compare what MIT can offer to the students who wants to study there but with only limited knowledge of the real world of the program.

"Is it also like a virtual world like what is offred here in Thompson or will the students be immersed with the real world of our industry?"

That question made the professor ask Katherine if she wanted to immerse herself in the real industry., take herself into it until she graduates? That makes 3-4 years of her life but at least she came back with pride and honor.

Because of this, Katherine is again bullied by everyone. Everyone wants the scholarship that was offered to her. The professors and the department head did everything so that they will get the attention of the MIT professor but too late, he wants to go home early since Massachusetts is very far from Harper Wales.

They decided to take all of whatever Katherine has. They made a fault out of her and make it a big deal. She almost got a case that will strain her record. A bitchy professor seduced Jared with promises to help Kate not knowing that the toll is the scholarship and of course, him.

I bet everyone is celebrating when Kate was gone out of Thompson University for good. I, on the other hand, talked to the director but unsucessful because the dean, I suspect were good friends. That university is one of the most prestigous university here but it gotten infected with worms that are difficult to remove.

Kate only have us.

I wasn't there for her since I was in an exchange student program at that time. She endured everything for 2 years. Can you blame her for being snob? Can you blame her stoned heart? She started to hate chemistry that's why instead, she took up Information Technology which is far from her course.

I only wish that she can finally move on, find the right guy for her and attain the success she wanted.

JM's POV

Now I know why Kate is a snob. If I were in her shoes, I would most likely give up and let the ground eat me.

The first time I saw her, she looked mysterious and silent. She only talks to her limited friends and other than them are considered strangers. Her eyes were so cold that sometimes, I just don't want to be caught looking because I might look creepy.

When she wore the dress in the foundation day, the ice princess became a cute little princess. That was the first time I see her other side. I don't know what came to me when I saw her hugging Jace whom I presume to be her boyfriend.

I got scared of my weird feelings about her. I wanted to know her more and seemed like I wanted to melt that ice cold heart and save whatever she has right now.

Right now, I want to take it slow. She's still healing. But I want her to know and show my new found feelings for her.
