David's P.O.V
"Don't reply," I told Natalie as we sat on my bed, editing a vlog.
Her ex, Shawn, had just texted her and she was contemplating whether to reply or not.
"But, that would be rude and what if he wants something important?" She argued, staring at her phone with a complex look.
I sighed, trying my best to hide my slight anger, "Nat, the guy broke up with you almost a year ago and didn't even bother to check up on you again, why in the world would you reply to such an asshole?"
"Exactly. He had an entire year to text me but he didn't, which is why I'm intrigued, because why now?" She replied.
She had a point. If Liza texted me right now, I'd be pretty curious to see what she wants, so I can understand why Natalie wanted to reply so bad.
But, I didn't want her to.
It's been over half a year now since I realized that I have feelings for Natalie. And yes, I was able to hide it from her all this time. I guess the fear of losing her because of this was greater than my urge to confess my feelings to her.
I actually came to terms with the fact that us happening is probably a one in a million chance. Every time I joke about dating her or having feelings for her, she seems uncomfortable, which is why I never had the bravery to confess anything.
But if she replies to Shawn now and it sparks something between them again, I would probably lose my shit.
"I'm going to reply," Natalie stated, snapping me out of my thoughts, only to have me notice that I hadn't replied to what she said before.
I had the urge to scream no, but I pushed it away.
"Okay," I said, acting as calm as I could. She smiled and unlocked her phone, texting him back.
Fucking shit, David, this is where your one in a million chance becomes a literal zero.
Natalie's P.O.V
I texted Shawn. He had only sent me a simple hey, so I sent one back.
I was more than curious to know what he wanted. Imagine a guy who hasn't acknowledged your existence for almost a year suddenly decided to talk to you, I'm sure anyone in my shoes would be intrigued.
However, I expected David to be even more curious than me. It surprised me how much he didn't want me to text Shawn back.
I was about to turn my phone off and go back to helping Dave edit the vlog, but I got a notification before I had the chance to.
'What are you up to?' Shawn wrote back. I looked over at David and realized that he wasn't even looking at his laptop. His eyes were locked on the screen on my phone, it was kinda weird but I mentally shrugged it off.
I replied to Shawn that I was editing a vlog with David and I asked him what was he up to. He said that he wasn't doing anything and I just send him a smiley emoji.
He took a while to reply, which was stressing me out, so I texted him again asking him what he wanted from me in the most polite way possible.
He asked if he could call and I told him to give me a few minutes. I turned to David to tell him, but I didn't need to do that because he was still reading the chat.
"Do you want me to leave the room?" David asked softly, even though he looked like he could punch through bricks right now.
I shook my head, "Dave, whatever he has to say to me, he could say to the two of us," I replied with a smile.
His 'could punch a brick' expression softened, and he smiled back, "Okay then, call him."
And so I did. I put the phone on speaker and waited anxiously. David must have noticed me tense up because he grabbed my hand and started to rub his thumb in soothing circles around it.
"Hello?" Shawn's voice filled the room.
My eyes slightly widened and my breath hitched but I managed to speak back, "Hey, Shawn."
"Where are you exactly?" He asked directly which caught me and Dave off guard.
"Home?" I answered his question with a question. David cracked a smile when I said that. I knew how much he liked it when I referred to this house as home which only made me smile back.
"No shit, I meant which room?" Shawn replied. His attitude was pissing me off.
"David's." I said with confidence.
The line went silent for a while, "And where's David?"
I glanced at David, and he slightly shook his head, indicating that I probably shouldn't tell Shawn that he was listening.
"He went to the living room so I could talk to you privately."
"He left his own room so you could talk on the phone?" Shawn asked with disbelief. Okay maybe I shouldn't have replied to his text.
"Yeah, gentleman things. However, you wouldn't know," I spat out. The bitterness in my voice was visible as fuck and I almost choked after I realized what I said.
David's lips slightly parted in shock, but then they curved into a smile and he tried so hard not to burst out laughing.
Shawn stayed quiet for a good amount of time before he was able to make out a sentence.
"Okay, okay, I deserved that. Look this is what I wanted to talk to you about. I know I was a jerk to you and we ended without a real logical reason. So I was wondering if you were down for us to meet up so I could explain everything. Give us closure, as they say."
I was a bit taken back. It's been almost an entire year, and now he wants to explain? Why didn't he decide that I deserved an explanation before?
As much as I didn't want to see him, I knew I still deserved closure, and so I replied, "When and where?"
David's hand tensed up against mine before he let go of my hand and sat back. I could tell he didn't approve of me agreeing, but I wanted to.
"Tonight?" Shawn asked.
Zane was hosting a party at this mansion he rented tonight. And I was supposed to go but I guess I could cancel.
"Sure," I replied.
He hummed and told me that he'll text me the details later before he said goodbye and hung up.
David was not okay at all with what just went down.
"Why?" Was all he managed to say.
"Because I deserve an explanation, Dave. I deserve to know that I was enough and that it wasn't my fault."
David slightly scoffed, "You don't need a bitch like him to tell you that, you should already know that yourself."
I slightly smiled, grabbing his hand again, "Closure, David. You got yours, now let me get mine."
