a/n: we don't have enough stenbrough representation so enjoy this angsty yet fluffy one-shot that I came up with as I was typing it. This is also not following the plot of the book or movie at all except for Georgie's death.
You could say Bill had been in a depressive state of mind since Georgie's death, 4 months ago. He barely ate, he never hung out with the Losers anymore. He didn't talk to Stan as much. It worried his friends. It worried Stan the most. He's gone to Bill's house multiple times to try to talk to him but Bill's mom said that he wasn't in the mood. He just wanted to be there for his friend. If that's what you could call it anymore.
Before Georgie's death, Stan and Bill we super close. They spent all of their free time together. They went bird-watching, read comic books, watched scary movies, and had many sleepovers. They had been inseparable. That is until Georgie was found dead in the streets. Bill had spent less time with anyone and it was hurting Stan.
So here Stan was on a Saturday afternoon, books in hand, ready to knock on Bill's door. He knocked twice and waited a few minutes. Miraculously, Bill answered the door, looking as if he had been run over with a truck. His hair stuck up in odd places and he wore a NASA shirt and some red plaid sleeping pants. It was 4:00 in the afternoon.
"Hey, Bill! I was wondering if you wanted to read these new X-men comics I got. I know you like them." Stan looked up at his friend. He saw the tiniest glance of a smile cross Bill's expressionless face. He triumphed over it.
"Uhm S-s-sure! D-d-d-do you wanna come in? My parents aren't home so we can listen to good music." Bill mentally cursed himself for stuttering so much. It had indeed gotten worse after Georgie's death and he hated it. He stepped past the door, letting Stan in.
They went up the stairs into Bill's room which was a disaster. There books and drawings everywhere. Most of the drawings were of Stan but Bill scooped them up before the other boy could notice. Bill's face flushed as Stan sat on the bed, spreading out the comics he'd bought.
"I-I've been w-w-waiting fo-or this edition for so l-l-long!" Bill said, slowly enjoying Stan's company more and more. Bill sat down next to Stan and watched as Stan sifted through the first part. He rested his head on Stan's shoulder.
As the hours grew on, both of the boys grew tired. They were now laying down, Bill's head still resting on Stan's shoulder. Stan had been reading the last volume out loud to Bill. Bill hadn't said anything in a bit so Stan looked over to see Bill's eyes closed. He had fallen asleep on Stan. He slowly shifted, bringing his arms around Stan who stiffened at first but relaxed into the hug. His face was a flustered mess as he let himself hug Bill back.
He could get used to this.
