In the morning the two went back to their new house with a fair amount of excitement. Although Azazel had been opposed to the idea, she couldn't deny that she was looking forward to settling in.
"I suppose the first order of business is cleaning everything up," Lang said as he looked around the dusty living room.
"You can take care of the rodents while I clear the cobwebs," Azazel proposed.
"I couldn't think of anything more enjoyable," her companion replied sarcastically, glancing at the mouse dung near the walls. The two separated and began their work. From her pocket dimension she pulled a linen handkerchief and then wrapped the cloth around her face. Azazel first opened all the windows before finding an old broom and beginning to sweep away all of the dirt. Dust billowed from the windows and door, the summer breeze carrying it away. Already the house seemed brighter and more spacious.
"How are the mice?" Azazel asked as Lang walked towards her.
"Dead, hopefully," he said, "I used a fair bit of poison."
"They're not going to rot in the walls, are they?"
"Nah, their nest was outside," Lang shook his head, "Dead mice shouldn't stink up the place."
"On the topic of stink," Azazel gave a pointed look at Lang's clothes. There were several dark stains which were more than likely mouse excrement.
"Mm, that is a problem," Lang glanced at his clothes and then at his companion's, "You're a bit musty looking yourself." Azazel found that her clothes were covered in dust. She frowned realizing that her hair was likely just as filthy.
"Not again! I suppose we'll have to go wash up at the inn," she said in disappointment.
"There's a well outside," Lang shrugged helplessly, "I could get some water, start a fire, get the water hot, and then pour it in a tub for you. Might take a while though."
"Hmm," Azazel nibbled her lip thoughtfully, "You said we could make the farmland into anything we want right?"
"Certainly! What did you have in mind?" the man asked.
"Hot springs probably wouldn't work," she muttered, "Never mind."
"On the contrary!" Lang exclaimed, "I said anything is possible! Sure, that request would be difficult, but it is not impossible!"
"How are you going to get, y'know, the spring?" Azazel asked skeptically, "There clearly isn't one here."
"Why, with magic of course!"
"If you think I can accomplish that, you're mistaken."
"I know, I know," Lang nodded, "I was thinking more along the lines of a magic item."
"Do you know how rare an item that creates a hot spring would be?" Azazel asked in exasperation, "The person who made something like that would have to be unimaginably powerful!"
"What if I told you I had such an item?" Lang gave her a dastardly smile, "An object which continuously generates hot water."
"I wouldn't believe you," Azazel crossed her arms.
"You know the necromancers we've been fighting?"
"Yeah, what about them?"
"You know the guy in charge of them all? That all-powerful vampire?"
"Volkun the Lord of Shadows? Cut to the chase already!"
"Okay, okay," Lang held his hands up defensively, "Volkun is very old and thus has had a very long time to research arcane magic. Before I met you, I ran into him once. I brought down an operation of his and he ran off to a yet to be uncovered location."
