"WELCOME TO LONG BEACH!"
"Can you not shout in my car? It's already a small space that I have to share with you." I scowled.
"Someone is crabby. Did you not get enough sleep?"
"I haven't slept since the day before we left. You know that."
"I offered to drive." He said matter-of-factly.
"And risk you crashing my car? No thanks. Not after the stories you have told me about you crashing your mom's car and your bike. I'll pass."
"Fine, well we better find a hotel soon so you can sleep. Otherwise I won't be the only one with a wreckage story."
"Good idea. Can you get my purse?" He flipped around in the car so he could retrieve my bag from the back seat. Once he had it, he turned back around. I would say he smells good but after being in the car with him for so long, I don't think I will ever get the cologne smell out of my car. My parents won't care where I went, they will be more concerned about who I was with.
"What did you need driver lady?"
"Before we left I did a little research and- "
"You made plans? That was strictly against the rules." He tsked and wagged his finger disapprovingly.
"And," I said ignoring him, tired agitation seeping into my mood. "I looked up any hotels in Huntington Beach that you can reserve under the age of 21. I guess that's hard to find in California. I didn't look it up for anywhere else so we will have to figure it out from here."
"Which one sounds good to you? How long are we staying here?"
"Plans. Not allowed." He nodded his head once more as if he was a soldier on a mission. "Anyways, I want something by the beach. I want to hear the ocean as I wake up."
"Then how about this one? The Waterfront. Sounds like it is exactly what you want." He grinned. We agreed on that hotel and he gave me the directions. By now our parents have had to notice we are gone. I can already picture turning on my phone and being attacked by voicemails and text messages from my mom.
"I know you said no plans but we are not staying in a hotel for our entire trip. I have another idea. But I will wait until you have had some sleep to get your input."
I mumbled an ok and looked along the sunset colored roads to find the hotel. Once it was spotted, we parked the car and got out our bags. We walked up to the front desk where a young blonde with dark tan skin was standing. I'm sure Jack found her attractive but to me she looked like an over baked potato.
"Hi! How can I help you guys tonight?" Her bright brown eyes stared back at the two of us expectantly.
"We need a room, preferably ocean view." Jack said, leaning onto the counter top smoothly.
"Sure thing! How many nights?"
"Just tonight." I said tiredly wanting so badly to rest my head on the counter in front of me. "Two beds please." I mentioned, almost forgetting, as she was typing away at her computer.
"I'm so sorry miss, but all of our multi-bed rooms are booked for the night." Her apologetic face looked practiced and not apologetic at all.
"Great." I rubbed my hand across my face. "What are your room options?"
"We have a lovely ocean view with a king bed or a standard queen room."
"The ocean view king is great. Thank you..." Jack squinted at her name tag, "Missy." She nodded her head and asked for our information. I handed her my dad's credit card instead of paying cash. This way I could let him know I was checking in safe without actually having to call him.
