The bus came to a halt in front of my house. Letting out a deep sigh and a roll of my eyes I slowly got up, slinging my bag over my shoulder and preparing to deal with whatever my mother has up her sleeve now - she's always up to something! Stepping off the last step of the bus and into the California heat, I squint into the sun and start the short walk up to my house. I stop dead in my tracks when I see my mother halfway in the car and it looks as if she's - packing the car with suitcases?! What the hell is she up to?!

Quietly I make my way to her and just watch with outright disgust on my face. She must feel my presence or is simply done with whatever she's situating. Slowly she backs out of her little red convertible and almost jumps out of her skin when she sees me. "Oh! Ophelia! You scared me! I'm glad you're finally home though!" She starts walking towards the house and heads right in motioning me to follow her. Shaking my head in confusion I follow her with a roll of my eyes. We enter the house and she turns around and looks at me. Her long brunette hair out of place and her eyes glimmer with something unknown in them. She smiles brightly and hugs me. "So I was thinking- How would you like to go on a road trip for the summer?" She looks at me expectantly. I say nothing and proceed to stare back at her with no emotion. Her smiles falls ever so slightly and then she's on the move again with me following behind her, boredly awaiting for whatever else she's going to say to come out.

She heads into the kitchen and starts pulling chips out and putting them in sandwich bags. Then she proceeds to make all different kinds of sandwiches at a speed I didn't know was possible for her. Quickly she looks up to make sure I'm there and starts up again before going back to her food duties. "I know today was the last day of school for you and tomorrow is your first official day of summer." She looks at me and gives me this dumb, knowing smile. "And I know for a fact you haven't been out of Cali since you were born. I think your due for an adventure! Go get ready! Your suitcase is on your bed, we're leaving in ten minutes!" And with that she glides right past me and back outside to the car, leaving me standing there completely dumbfounded and confused. Why the hell do we have to go on a freaking road trip? Like WHY?! Before I have even another second to think about it, she glides past me again. "Nine minutes O! I'd start packing if I were you!" Gently, she shoves me to the stairs to hint that I need to get ready and I don't have a choice either way. With an annoyed sigh I slowly head up the stairs to my room.
