Since I've found road trips are boring, I've spent my time looking at the scenery, listening to music, ignoring mom and sleeping - that's it! How fuuuun...
This time when I'm awoken, it isn't because mom woke me - in fact she's sitting in the driver's seat and typing away on her phone. I woke up because we stopped moving.
Groaning, I sit up and squint. The sun is slapping me in the eyes - it's like it's brighter than usual! Finally able to fully open my eyes, I look around. What the heck - We're in a WALMART PARKING LOT! Frowning, I look at my mom but she's so into whatever she's doing, she doesn't even realize I'm awake.
Patting around, I find my phone and check the time and then think - that's my newest hobby on this dumb trip; keping time and seeing how long we've been traveling since the last time I checked. It takes me a few minutes but I finally come to my answer - nine hours and twenty - eight minutes. Now the question is - WHERE ARE WE?!
All of a sudden, mom puts her phone away and seems shocked that I'm awake.
"Oh! Good morning O!" She finally gets a smile on her face and continues. "Are you hungry? Need the bathroom? Wanna stretch?" She questions quickly. I shrug my shoulders in response. She doesn't seem to like my answer too much. "Come on, we'll do all three!" And just like that, she's jumping out of the car and waiting for me to follow.
I let out an a light, airy sigh and get out of the car as well. We - well mom walks us quickly inside and rushes us into the bathroom to release ourselves and freshen up. Next, we head to subway where I'm FORCED to get something since I haven't eaten in almost ten hours. Annoyed, I settle on a ham and cheese melt thing with jalapeno chip, a cherry pepsi and a soft baked pretzel with cheese. Mom gets a turkey and cheese sub, a cherry pepsi as well and some kind of cheesy chips. Getting our food, we fill our drinks and sit down and start eating.
Immediately, I can tell something's up with mom, she's antsy, her eyes keep darting everywhere like she's on high alert for someone or something and she keeps quickly tapping the table - although I'm pretty sure she's not aware of that. Not even two bites later, she stops eating, pushes away her food and pulls out her phone. I watch her and see her quickly type and type and type with little pauses in between. I swear her nervousness is contagious because it creeps across the table and hits me. Finishing my sub, I drink a little more of my drink and nibble on my chips. Then like lightning, mom jumps up and is muttering things that I can't even understand. Her eyes look wild. I've never seen her like this and it scares me. Before I know it, she's tugging me back through the store, outside into the stifling heat and into the car. I don't have a second to ask what's going on before she squeals out of the parking spot and out of the parking lot, onto the main road where there is car and cars galore- Traffic city!
