"Mmrrggh... who is texting me?"

I blindly reach over and grab my phone, rubbing my sleepy eyes and squinting at the bright screen. Of course, it's Phil.

I rub my hands together, breath slightly visible in the chilled air. The sun hasn't even fully risen yet, and Phil is forcing me to stand here and wait for him in the cold.

Why do I do what he tells me to do?

Speaking of the devil, I look up to see Phil skipping from his house and heading toward me with something clutched in his hand.

"Hey, Dan! Sorry to keep you waiting. Mum wanted me to give you this, since your mum never makes breakfast," he says, holding out the unknown object he was holding. It is a biscuit, fresh out of the oven.

"Thanks, Phil," I laugh, taking the food out of his hand and shoving it into my mouth.

We begin to walk down the street, the grey sky gazing down at us. A cold breeze flows through my thin sweatshirt and ruffles my hair, causing me to shiver.

"Cold?"

I look up at Phil, still slightly upset about the fact that he is three and a half inches taller than me, and give a tiny nod. He smiles and pulls off his jumper, sliding it around my shoulders.

"No, no, you'll get a cold, Phil-" I begin, but he cuts me off.

"First of all, you sound like my mum. Secondly, I'll be fine. A little cold is worth it as long as you're warm."

I feel my cheeks flush and look away quickly.

"Thank you," I murmur.

He chuckles and throws an arm around me.

"Anything for you, Danny."
