Cont'd:

Yamina sat in her car, squeezing the steering wheel so tight, the tips of her fingers were red and the palms of her hands, sore.

Her head began to throb from the strain of trying to suppress her need to scream at something.

Someone.

Anyone.

Seeing her sister in danger was taking a toll on her.

Quite a while had passed since she'd made her way off the compound and Lyon was still nowhere to be found. Yamina had decided to give him a bit more time, then she'd be forced to go in on her own.

She always kept multiple guns in her car, which meant she'd be armed. However, she would have to go forego wearing the appropriate attire for these situations, like gloves and proper footwear. A piece of cloth could work as a face cover, but she would've preferred her usual mask which had built-in technology to protect against gaseous hazards. Had Yamina been thinking clearly earlier, she'd have worn it while scouting the property, however, the mistake was already made. There was nothing she could do about it besides hope any security cameras had not captured her image.

Already at a disadvantage, she'd have to compromise further.

Yamina couldn't care, at this point. She was willing to take the risk, once it meant getting her child and the rest of those kids to safety.

The plan; get Yazari and avoid confrontation unless absolutely necessary.

Yani peered through the side mirrors, watching for any sign of Lyon.

Sighing exasperatedly, she grabbed her phone from the centre console and redialed his number.

Yani flicked the indicator knob off and on in anxiousness while continuing to monitor the area.

Immediately, the phone went to voicemail. Stunned, she took it from her ear and stared at the screen. Lyon had just declined her call.

Deciding to chalk that up to him being on his way or in a tight situation, she decided to wait five more minutes before calling him again. Maybe then, he'd answer.

He didn't...

The phone rang for a few seconds then went straight to voicemail.

He'd declined her call again.

Shaking her head, Yamina rested her forehead against the steering wheel. She couldn't believe Lyon was not answering her calls.

*

Two hours later...

Yamina was still waiting.

She refused to leave in case Eduardo vacated the premises. She'd be at an even greater disadvantage.

Frustrated tears welled in her eyes.

Even though Yazari was not his blood, she'd thought that maybe Lyon would've at least regarded her as someone important enough to him. He'd done more for others who weren't his family, why couldn't he spare time for the little girl he claimed to love?
