I was abruptly awakened by CPT. Charlie, feeling a bit groggy, I naively asked, "Why is it so early?" He chuckled and replied, "Oh, do you want me to get you some toast and coffee? Get up now; we have a lot to do." With a playful gesture, he grabbed me and effortlessly lifted me from the stiff chair. "Welcome to Afghanistan, Nolan," he said, his voice serious, "This could be the last place you'll ever see or the place you wish you didn't live to see at the end of this godforsaken war."

As the reality of the situation sank in, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. With newfound determination, I got ready to face the challenges that lay ahead.

We made our way to the training center, a sprawling facility where I saw an obstacle course and gun training areas. The intensity of the training was apparent, and I knew I had to prove myself among the seasoned soldiers of the 47th battalion.

Charlie explained that we'd be using U.S. manufactured M416 rifles for our missions. The weight of the weapon in my hands reminded me of the responsibility that came with being part of such an elite team.

Addressing me more formally now, Charlie introduced me to the rest of the crew, each with their respective ranks. There was Peter, the First Lieutenant, who seemed to be the brains behind the operations. Glen, the Second Lieutenant, was a no-nonsense, tough-as-nails soldier who earned the respect of everyone around him.

Leo, the Sergeant Major, was the team's backbone, guiding and supporting us in the toughest of times. And finally, CJ, the Sergeant, a skilled and reliable soldier who had seen it all and came out stronger each time.

Together, we formed the 47th battalion - a tight-knit group that faced danger head-on and trusted one another with their lives. Despite being the newcomer, I felt a sense of belonging among them.

Over the following days, I underwent rigorous training alongside my new comrades. The obstacle course pushed our physical limits, and the gun training honed our shooting skills to perfection. Each day, I learned valuable lessons from my experienced teammates, gaining their respect with every passing challenge.

As we prepared for our first mission, I couldn't help but reflect on the path that brought me here. I was just an ordinary person, and now, I found myself entangled in the complexities of war and secrecy, trying to hide my hybrid abilities while harnessing them for the greater good.

In the midst of this dangerous landscape, I formed bonds with my fellow soldiers, recognizing the importance of trust and camaraderie in surviving the battlefield. The days blurred into one another, and as we neared our deployment date, I was determined to prove myself worthy of being part of the 47th battalion.

Little did I know that our first mission would be a pivotal moment in my journey, one that would change the course of my life forever. The challenges that awaited us in the heart of the battlefield would test not only our skills as soldiers but also our resilience in the face of the unknown. And so, with a mix of anxiety and determination, we prepared to face our destiny in the land of Afghanistan.
