Chapter 1

I never thought a fountain could be this exciting.

Except, to be completely honest, it isnt the fountain thats making my stomach flutter and my palms sweat. Even though the fountain is huge and marble and carved and pretty.

It's the fact that - I check my phone - I have approximately ten minutes until a limousine comes and whisks me off to my date with One Direction.

"How did you, a 17-year-old nobody from Washington, D.C., get a date with a beautiful, talented, international boy band?" you may be wondering. I'm still wondering that too. Even though I know the answer.

It all started two months ago, on a bright, sunny spring day. Actually, I lied. It was dark and rainy, which is why I was inside crashed on the couch with a bag of Doritos and my laptop. And just because I'm that kind of obsessed, I was going through One Direction's entire VEVO playlist watching every single music video, when one of those stupid ads that shows up before every video on YouTube caught my attention.

At first, I was like, Aww, they're so sweet!! And then it hit me and I frantically scrabbled to click on the link below before the ad ended. After watching a video of One Direction explaining the rules - $10 per entry, winner to be notified by email and YouTube shout out on the 11th of November, etc., etc., I entered myself. Yes, I felt like a crazy fanatic, but I justified my actions by telling myself that even though the odds were a billion to one, at least my money was going to a good cause.

The rest is history.

And now, I'm standing in the town square in front of a huge fountain, waiting to meet One Direction.

(A/N: So ... Did you like it? Haha I know there's not much to form an opinion on ... Sorry for starting with a teaser chapter but I promise you the action will pick up soon!! Anyways. I'm Maria, and I'm 1/2 of Amethyst Butterflies. My friend Katie (the other 1/2) and I will switch off chapters in this fanfic - most of the odd chapters will be written by me, most of the even chapters will be written by Katie - but we'll put our names next to the chapter just so you know.
