Chapter 9
FABIAN
I frown to myself when I see Dalia dodging my question. This isn't like her. Or maybe it is. How would I know? I haven't seen her in eight years.
When she goes through the double doors to the backroom, I round the counter and look through the book where she left her envelope. Quietly, I take the letter out and read it over. It looks like she's behind on her rent.
"What do you think you're doing?" I drop the letter and turn around.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask her gesturing to the fallen letter.
"Because it has nothing to do with you" she takes the letter and the book and puts them away. "Now move" I move out of her space.
"I can help you"
"Sorry, I don't think so. I don't need your help"
"Why won't you accept my help?" I ask her frustratingly. She sighs in annoyance and I know I'm getting on her nerves. I always did. I smile at the memory.
"So... can I?" Fabian asks Dalia for the 100th time to which she replies with the same answer.
"No Fabe" she tells him sternly, annoyance building up.
"But why?" He moans like a 5 year old.
"Because I said so" she replies back more annoyed. She sighs in frustration.
"That's not a valid answer. Can I pleaseee?"
"Stop it. You're annoying me" Fabian smirks as he takes a seat at the spinning chair in her room. Dalia walks around, cleaning up her room before her father comes home and yells at her again for keeping an untidy bedroom.
"I know" he smugly replies while spinning around.
"Then why annoy the hell out of me?" She stops her unfolding and glares sharply at him.
"Because you're fun to annoy, duh" he carries on spinning, completely unfazed by the harsh glare thrown his way by his best friend. Dalia sighs and gives up as silence surrounds them. "So... can I?" He tries one more time.
"Can you what?" She faces him this time.
"Borrow your roller skates?" he stands up and lies back on her bed. She gasps and slaps his leg. "What was that for?" He asks, slowly rubbing his leg.
"You messed up all my neat and folded clothes. Now you're going to fix it" she yells at him with a warning tone. Fabian is about to protest when a thought occurs.
"I'll do it. For a price" he smirks and she gives him a 'what are you up to' look.
"No way. You did this. You should be punished rather than rewarded" ignoring her, he carries on with his request.
"I'll do it, if you let me borrow your roller skates" he smirks wider but it soon fades when he sees the deathly look in her eyes.
