Chapter 18

DALIA

THE drive back home was fairly quiet. I could sense a great amount of tension between Fabian and Natalia, but why?

We reached Seaview around 10pm and was too tired for anything. We had dropped Natalia off first and then made way towards my house. Dad was away on business and I had the house to myself, which is very lonely.

We stopped outside my house and just sat in silence. Fabian kills the engine and looks out of the windshield.

"You okay?" I ask him and he sighs, shaking his head. "Want to talk about it?"

"I have no idea." He looks at me and smiles lopsidedly. I laugh and ruffle his hair.

"Want to come in?" He nods his head and we exit his car. The snow folds around my ankles and luckily I wore my boots. The cold air swirls around us, the chilly breeze brushing past my exposed neck. My teeth begins to chatter and even though I'm wearing gloves, my fingers shake from the cold, failing to insert the house key.

"Come on Dali. I'm freezing out here"

"And I'm just dandy" I roll my eyes and he nudges me causing the keys to fall into the snow. I gasp and turn around. "Now look at what you did!"

"Me?" His eyes go wide with shock. I nod my head and he scoffs. "It's not my fault butter fingers"

"Butter fingers? I'm wearing gloves!" I hold up my hand for him so he knows the gloves caused them to fall. "If you hadn't had pushed me, the keys wouldn't have fallen. You need to pick them up. Dad isn't home to let us in" I fold my arms over my chest. Puffs of fog escaping my mouth proving just how cold it really is.

"As if" he scoffs and looks up at the sky.

"Fabian" He doesn't respond and anger fuels me. "Fabian" I raise my voice a little and still, his eyes are still up at the sky. "Don't ignore me" I see a smile etching onto his lips and I puff out some air. "Fabian!" I finally scream. He smirks and makes eye contact.

"I never expected to hear you screaming my name. Not in this circumstance anyways. Maybe another?" my eyes go wide and my cheeks heat up which should be impossible because of the weather but not right now. I'm left speechless. My mouth hangs open. His finger goes under my chin. He chuckles and goes down and digs his fingers into the snow retrieving the fallen key. "Relax Dali, I was talking about screaming to be rescued" he smirks and unlocks the door. He enters, leaving me standing there with my mouth ajar.

"Fabian!" I screech from the top of my voice and run in, shutting the door behind me.

"Okay okay okay. Fine I give up" tears start pooling out of my eyes as Fabian's fingers tickle my body. Unable to catch my breath, I sit up and breath heavily. "Gosh. I can't remember the last time you tickled me this hard" I laugh and he does too.

"I do" he smirks and I shake my head amusedly at him.

"Fabian please. I'm trying to work" Dalia scolds him for his annoying behaviour. He pouts and sits opposite her on the bed.

"So, can we play a game?" He asks her with those eyes and Dalia tries to look away. "Pretty please?" He gets more in her face and she shuts her eyes.

"Fabian no. I know what you're trying to do and it won't work this time" she says as confidently as she could however, knowing full well that that's all lies. With one look in his eyes, she knows she'll give in.
