Chapter 4

FABIAN

I look up at the old looking building before me. I never knew she owned a bookstore. She's never told me she wanted to own one.

I entered the bookstore and the bell above signals my entrance. I see a young girl looking up from her book.

"Hello, can I help you?" She rounds the counter and stands in front of me.

"Yes actually. Do you know where Dalia is?" I ask the girl.

"Yes, she just went across the road to the bakery. You can wait here if you like" I smile at her and thank her. "No problem. My name is Kimmy-Lee"

"Nice to meet you. I'm Fabian" her eyes go a little wide but then she smiles.

"Nice to meet you too" she quickly walks away and to the back. I shrug and look around. It's nice and warm. I'll say, it gives a homely feeling. I look on bookshelves and see many books from different kinds of genres. The door opens and the bell singles. I see Dalia standing there with her mouth wide open.

"What are you doing here?" She enters and walks to the counter without sparing me a glance. I sigh and follow on after her.

"I wanted to resolve our issue"

"Issue! It's not just an issue."

"Just tell me what I can do to make it up to you"

"Nothing Fabian. Nothing. Just leave me alone. I'm well on my feet. I've had many knock backs and I'm not going to allow you to be another one. So just leave me alone"

"Why didn't you tell me that Natalia was engaged?" She scoffs.

"So that's why you're here, to ask about Natalia? Gosh, how low can you get?" She places her hands on her hips and sharply glares at me.

"I'm not. I swear. I'm here to get our friendship back"

"Then why are you asking about that... that slag"

"Don't talk about her like that. She's not a slag"

"You would know" she rolls her eyes.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I question her.

"Well let me see, while you were away, grovelling about your loss relationship, she was here spreading her legs open for anyone who gave a good fuck. She didn't care about you or if you were coming back" I shake my head, trying not to believe it.

"It may have been a coping mechanism. Coping with our break up"

"You want to believe that?" She raises an eyebrow and I begin to get angry. Natalia isn't like that. She wouldn't just sleep around like that unless she wanted to fill a void. A void I couldn't fill.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She sighs.

"It's not my business" she shrugs and puts her coat on the coat hanger. She walks around, attending to each shelf.

"Can you stop walking around and listen to me?"

"I'm working"
