Chapter 26

FABIAN

MY trip to Spain didn't last very long. I didn't have enough time with my grandparents. I had to leave so soon seeing that Natalia had been in the hospital after a brutal attack.

I open the door to her hospital room and gaze in. She's sound asleep. I walk in, shutting the door after me. I wonder if she looked far worse before this. How could this have happened? Her eyes flutter open and once she sees me, she smiles.

"Hey Fabe. Didn't think you'd be here" she sits up and pulls me closer to her by my hand. I'm surprised by her action.

"Yeah, I'm here. I... I wanted to come and see you. Natalia, when I heard you were in the hospital, my heart stopped. I didn't think I'd have these feelings for you anymore. I found out that I had feelings for Dalia but-"

"You have feelings for Dalia?" She asks me and I nod my head.

"I was denying it. I was trying to deny it. I kept telling myself that I was still madly fallen for you but... I guess I was a little bit wrong. Because hearing you were hurt made me want to tear the world apart to find whoever did this to you and make them pay. And then I realised, that if this was Dalia, I would scour the earth and murder anyone in my path who tried to stop me from getting revenge."

"So, you're... in love with her?"

"I think so. It's weird Nat. I've never felt like this for anyone. My feelings for her, they are so much different than they were for you" I look into her eyes and see sadness.

"I have to tell you something Fabe"

"What is it?"

"It's Dalia. She's..." she sighs and looks at her hands.

"She's what? She's not hurt is she?"

"No no no defiantly not. It's just... she's with someone now"

"Who?"

"She's back with one of her ex's"

"Wait, Joshua?"

"You know of him?" I look away and at the wall ahead of me. My jaw clenching.

"Yes. I met him the day he came. So him and Dalia, they're dating?"

"I think so. She was so excited about their date."

"When was it?"

"Yesterday." I frown. She was excited?

"Thanks for telling me"

"What are you going to do?" She asks me, taking my hand in hers. I smile at her.

"I'm going to pay her a visit"

-:-:-:-:-

I stand outside her door. The subtle fall from the snow hitting my coat reminding me Christmas is soon and I want to resolve all this problem with her.

I knock, trying to make it sound as soft as possible but instead, comes out heavy. The door opens but I see someone I didn't expect to see.

Joshua.

Standing there, a towel wrapped around his waist. My eyes find the purplish marks on his neck. It doesn't take a genius to detect what had happened the night before.

"Is Dalia here?"

"Well of course. It is her house after all" he opens the door wider and I hesitantly walk in. I don't want to come into something I won't be able to get out of my imagination.

"Joshua, you left the water running agai-" Dalia walks down the stairs in a silky nightgown. I exhale and look between them. "Oh, Hey. What are you doing here?" She reaches the landing and I walk up to her.

"Can I talk to you, in private?" I ask her with my voice low.

"Sure. Let's go to the kitchen" I follow after her as I hear the footsteps of his ascending the stairs. "What do you want to talk about?"

"Us."

"Us?" She frowns and I smile. She's cute when she frowns.

"Yeah. Before I left, I was confused. About how I felt towards you. But now, not so much."

"And how'd you figure that out?" Folding her arms over her chest, starring at me pointedly.

"When you called telling me about an accident, I was so worried that you might have been involved. All that was going through my mind was 'is she okay?' 'Is she hurt?' I felt obliged to be there with you. Until you told me it was Natalia at the hospital. I wasn't worried as much. Of course I was curious if she was okay and how she ended up there, but a part of me was mostly worried about you and only you. I didn't know what the think" I walk towards her and she holds her hand up, stopping me. I look at her confused as to why she's pushing me away. I thought she wanted this. Me.

"Fabian, stop. You can't just spring this on me out of the blue."

"I don't follow"

"Fabian I'm confused."

"Oh I see. How was your date with Joshua?"

"It was fine actually. Great even."

"I'm guessing you had a busy night too"

"That's none of your business" she scowls at me and I scoff.

"Dalia you will always be my business. As my best friend or my girlfriend, I'll always care. Don't think I won't"

"That's good to know" I smirk at her. Sarcasm laced in her tone.

"Nice with the sarcasm"

"Are we done here?"

"For now. I'm just letting you know that... I won't stop having feelings for you. I have these strong feelings for you and they'll only grow"

"Okay. But I just need time to think."

"How long?" I step closer slowly, cautious about the fact that she might stop me. She looks down and sighs.

"I don't know Fabe. Just.... give me time. Please?" After deliberating, I nod my head, giving up.

"Okay. But I'm gonna fight for you, sweet Dalia" I kiss her cheek, prolonging it. I feel her hand brush my arm slightly and I smile. I pull away and turn to leave the house. Well, that was intriguing. Never have I ever gotten so intact with my emotions like that.
