Marisol's POV
Current Mood: "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
"School is out and it's a sort of a buzz
A back then I didn't really know what it was
But now I see what have of this
The way that people respond to summer madness
The weather is hot and girls are dressing less
And checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best..."
I woke up the next day with nervous energy and butterflies in my stomach. I was hoping the good vibes from the previous day would carry over and I could have a chance to talk to the cute brothers - Daniel and Matthew. I had really enjoyed talking with Matthew during our Pictionary game, but he was older and guys like him typically didn't go for girls like me. The best I could hope for was being friends. Daniel, on the other hand, was my age and seemed more approachable. I was hopeful. And why not? Summer is a magical time where it feels like anything is possible, and I had gone to bed with slightly embarrassing thoughts of Daniel giving me my first Real Kiss.
When Susana and I arrived at the Y, Preston led us all to the minivan and announced we were going to a "Teen Party" at one of the other Y's. This meant we would be getting together with several other teen camps from other YMCA's and the hosting Y would have activities planned for us to do together. It was a way to get all the teenagers to meet and interact with one another.
Susana and I had taken a seat near the middle of the van and tried to ignore Cassie's loud voice coming from the front. Cassie always had to be the center of attention. Lame. She was currently reaching over the isle trying to grab Matthew's arm as he passed. He dodged her, but just barely.
Danielle was leaning over the back of her seat, flipping her long, blond hair and batting her eyes at Daniel who was in the seat behind her. Ugh, flirting always looked so fake and ridiculous. And yet, Daniel seemed to be completely into it. What was wrong with guys? As much as I wanted some of his attention, I wasn't going to act like that. I cringed at the thought of me swooning over any boy.
"Hi" Matthew said softly as he walked by.
I looked up and grinned at Matthew and immediately turned my attention to Daniel again.
My sister punched me in the arm and said, "Hey loser, I think he was talking to you."
"Ow!" I shook my head. "No Susie - he was obviously talking to you." My sister could be so dense sometimes.
When we arrived at the visiting Y, we were told we would be playing a game of kickball. Our teen group was our team, and while two teams played, the other teams would get to watch and hangout. I sat with Susie on the stands and we talked and watched the other teens.
