CHAPTER FOURTEEN:
When I woke up the next morning, Jessie was still in bed next to me. That usually didn’t happen, so I was glad to lay my head down on her up-and-down-moving chest. She was sitting up, both of her arms wrapped around me, her cheek resting on top of my head.
“How long have you been awake for?” I whispered.
“Long enough to realise how stupid I was for always leaving so early.”
I frowned, but did not question her answer. Instead, I asked her what her plans for today were.
“Rachel called and asked if we could take care of little Isaac while they’re at the hospital for their first scan,” she said. “And I said yes.”
“How old is Isaac?”
“He’s five. You will adore him baby, I promise.”
I wasn’t worried about me liking him; I was more concerned about him liking me. See, I’m not exactly great with small children, due to all the crying they do. It frustrates me that they can’t behave normally. When Fleur was younger, we always argued. Me and little kids just aren’t exactly tea and toast.
“Will he adore me?” I asked.
Jess chuckled and pressed her lips to my cheek, so I could feel her moist breath caress my face. “Of course he will. Everyone adores you.”
“But I haven’t even met Rachel yet,” I protested.
“Don’t worry, she’s here in thirty minutes, you’ll meet her then.”
“Very reassuring, Jessica. Wait, thirty minutes? We’re still in bed, for God’s sake!” I tried to get up, but Jessie’s arms were like stale barriers, keeping me where I was.
“Jess, let me out, I want to shower and put some clothes on.”
With those words, she immediately let me get out of bed. I quickly rolled out of bed and magically landed on all fours. I stood up and dusted myself off. As I slowly headed towards the bathroom door, I sneaked a glance at Jessica, who also got out of bed.
“What are you doing?” I asked, opening the door to the en-suite.
“You know,” she started talking as she came closer, “in this house, we save as much as possible. So, I was thinking we could save some water and have a shower together…. What do you say, baby?”
“That’s bullshit, darling,” I told her.
Jessie laughed, but I knew that she was a bit annoyed that I had refused. “By the way, I promised Isaac that we’d go to ‘our’ café to get hot chocolate… We always do. You don’t mind tagging along, do you?”
I kissed her lips, once, twice… four times. “Of course I don’t.” I rested my forehead on hers and smiled at her. I couldn’t quite see her lips, but her eyes crinkled around the corners and I knew she was smiling back at me.
“You’re only saying that because you love hot chocolate,” she replied.
“And because I love you.” I kissed her lips again.
“Sure, baby,” she said with a laugh, but I knew she knew that I meant it.

I took a deep breath and stared at the mirror. Isaac, Rachel and Camille were downstairs but of course, I had to shower, so I went upstairs thirty minutes ago to do just that. I was currently getting dressed, in casual clothes, something I was quite used to. I was wearing black skinny jeans, with some random t-shirt on top of that. I would just take my leather jacket with me in case I got cold.
