My Protective Alpha

Chapter Eight-Tension

When I wake up, I realize my pain is gone. I notice that instead of the hospital room, I am in my bedroom.

Zach is asleep on the couch very peacefully.

I quietly try to get up but living with a werewolf Alpha, there is no quiet.

He rushes over to my side and pulls me into a crushing hug, while breathing in my scent.

"Zach I'm okay" I whisper out while pulling his head back so I can see his face.

He gives me a simple nod and smile then gets a concerning look on his face.

"What is it Zach?" I blurt out causing him to realize he was making a face.

While shaking his head he speaks "Nothing, just some pack duties I need to take care of... but they can wait."

"Zach, I'm fine, look at me, I'm really okay."

He gives me another look and is about to speak when I pull him into a kiss and I say "I'll be hear when you get back, now go."

With a nod, then a smile, he runs towards the balcony and jumps off while shifting into wolf form.

I slowly get up and feel my legs crumble beneath me. My hands stop my face from hitting the ground and I can't help but let out a small whimper. The door to our room flies open with a first angry, then worried, Carter.

"Are you okay Luna?"

I shake my head in embarrassment, "yeah I'm fine."

He walks over to me and picks me up by my arms, so that I am standing.

I try to take a few steps more but I instantly collapse again.

I look up at Carter and ask "what's wrong with me?"

I can see Carter instantly mind linking, but I quickly say "no Carter, he needs to worry about alpha duties."

"Luna, he's going to be very angry if I don't tell him."

"I'll handle it Carter, just get me to the doctor."

He carries me outside and shifts so that I am on his back.

We quickly arrive at the hospital and he shifts back and puts on clothes so he can carry me.

We get inside the hospital and There are many people with blood all over them, broken bones, and many are crying.

"What the hell is going on Carter?" I say while looking up at his face.

His eyes are wide as he stares forward.

I look over and see what he is staring at.

Zach is standing there talking to a doctor.

I see him sniff the air and I know we are screwed.

"Carter quick sit me down on a chair." I whisper

Carter puts me down and stands there tall and emotionless as possible like a bodyguard.

Zach turns around and sees me and walks over.

"What are you guys doing here?" He calmly questions.

I give a smile and say "just thought we would drop by to say thanks to the doctor." "What happened to all of these people?"

Zach's face turns slightly to sadness and anger before he says "I'll talk to you about it later."

I only nod as Zach turns to Carter and is clearly mind linking him.

"Can I be put into the loop you guys?" I ask drawing Zach's attention

"Go home river, I need you to go home."

He kisses my head but before he walks away, he quickly turns around and grabs Carters shirt.

"What did you just think?" Zach bellows out clearly angry

I try with all my might to stand up, I do and stay planted until I try to take a step towards Zach.

My knees crumble under me again, and I know i have made a mistake.

Zach instantly hits the ground so he can see my face and he says "baby, what's wrong?"

I only whimper in pain and then Zach looks to Carter.

A few seconds later Zach picks me up and carries me into the back and lays me on a bed.

The doctor from before rushes in and I give him a look of embarrassment.

He puts his hand gently on my shoulder and says "nothing to be embarrassed about.

He starts to take a look at my legs and says that he needs to take an X-ray.

Once he's done with the tests he says that for some reason my legs have not completely healed since the first shift.

He gives me some type of medicine that is made for wolves but it's a small dose since I'm not a full werewolf.

Once the doctor is done, Zach makes everyone but Carter and I leave the room.

He looks like he's about to explode with anger as he walks towards Carter but I stop him by saying "it was my fault Zach."

Zach just stops in place while staring at Carter.

"I told carter not to tell you because you have more important things to worry about than my stupid messed up shifting."

"Luna" Carter says trying to get me to stop.

A growl erupts from Zach as he continues walking towards Carter.

I manage to stand up and I yell out "Zach cut it out."

Zach's body quickly turns around and is inches from my face.

I let out a small whimper and I hear Carter let out a very small growl.

"Carter, wait in the hallway" I say trying to lower the tension in the room.

Carter doesn't budge till I stare straight at Zach and say "he won't hurt me, now go."

Carter quickly leaves then Zach picks me up and sits me on the bed.

His eyes never leave mine and he says "they killed more members of the pack today."

"Who Zach?"

"Daniel" he mumbles out clearly upset and angry.

"Why is he doing this Zach?"

He closes his eyes for a second before opening them with tears in his eyes and saying "they want you, not just the rogues, Daniels pack as well."
