Chapter Nine- The cabin

"Me? Why would they want me?"

Zach takes in a deep shaky breath before standing up and walking to the other side of the room.

He stands with his back to me and slightly turns his head towards the door.

A second later Carter and Jackson are standing in the room.

"Alpha" they both speak in unison.

Zach turns facing them, clearly mind linking before looking at me with a slight anger and pain in his eyes.

He walks over and places a kiss on my head and breaths in my scent before saying "I love you, but this is for your own good."

He quickly stabs a needle into my arm and I can feel my eyes and body quickly start to get weak.

"Don't.......do this.......Zach" is the last words I can manage before the darkness takes me away from my mate.

"Where am I?" Is the first thing I mumble out as I look up at what looks like a dark wood ceiling.

I sit up put my feet on the floor while slowly pushing myself into a standing position.

I stand up successfully and feel better than I have in awhile.

I look around the room and the walls are dark looking oak..... am I in a log cabin or something?

I go over to the door and open it, revealing a small living room.

I walk past the kitchen then quickly rush back to it, realizing I am extremely hungry.... when is the last time I ate?

I pull open the door to the fridge and don't see any food. I open the cabinets and still the same.

What kind of house doesn't have any food?

I hear a small noise come from a room with the door closed and I quietly walk over to it.

I open the door to see Carter and someone else both sleeping in two different beds, on apposing sides of the room.

I close the door and take a seat on the couch. Two many questions pop through my head.

Why would Zach do this?

Why wouldn't he stay with me?

Is he going to go to war without me?

What if he gets hurt?

I shake my head, bringing back reality. I go over to the door and open it hearing an alarm sound out.

The loud ringing scares me and I hit the ground shaking.

I hear two loud growls until I hear the alarm stop and I see Carter in front of me.

He puts out his hand and says "it's okay river, it's just for precaution."

I take his hand while saying "for me or for intruders?"

He only gives me a small look than walks over to the door.

The other man walks over to me and bows while saying "Luna, my name is Vix, and I will be your second personal bodyguard."

"Nice to meet you vix, and you don't have to call me Luna."

He nods then walks away back into their bedroom.

Carter is still staring at the door doing something, so I grab his arm and turn him so he's facing me.

Before he can speak I say "Carter, I need some answers."

He gives me a nod, "ask away."

"Where are we?"

"In a cabin?"

Carter you know what I meant.

"I can't tell you."

"Carter" I say agitated.

"Look river, Zach doesn't want you to get hurt or taken by the rogues or Daniels pack." "He thought it would be best to keep you far away from the conflict and out of danger." "I was ordered by him to not tell you where we are or how far away we are."

"Carter, he needs me, I'm his mate." "What if he gets hurt?"

"Then we have doctors River, it will all be okay."

I take a deep long breath before giving in and saying "how long do we have to be here?"

Until he says we can come back.

"Then lets go get some food Carter." I say that while making my way to the door.

He grabs my wrist gently and says "Your not going anywhere, I will send Vix out."

I tug on his hand and say in the most powerful tone I can muster, "No, you will not keep me in here like a prisoner, now lets go out."

He gives me a look then points to my room, "go put the clothes I have in a pile on in your room, then meet me back in here."

I basically run the short distance back to my room and see the pile of clothes. There is a nice snug shirt, jeans, a two tone jacket, and military style boots.. my favorite!

At the bottom there is what looks to be a Kevlar vest and some kind of necklace. The necklace looks to be a silver heart shaped locket. Inside is a picture of Zach and I.

I can help but smile as I put it on before slowly feeling sad again, as my mate is put here.

I walk out into the living room and see Carter and Vix standing on opposite sides of the room dressed in all black matching outfits.

I can't help but to start laughing as Carter has sunglasses on trying to look cool inside.

Vix starts laughing and Carter quickly takes them off and puts them in his pocket.

"River, if you wanna leave the house, there's some rules."

I run over to the couch and sit down like a kid waiting for candy.

I hate having to be treated like a kid but I figure the more I listen, the more they will trust me, and then I can make my escape to my mate.

Carter begins to rattle the rules off,

Rule one: You stay by Vix's or my side at all times

Rule two: If we get separated you meet back at the last place we saw each other

Rule three: If you break any of the two rules, you will be only allowed at the house from now on.

He looks over at Vix and says "am I missing anything?"

Vix shakes his head then looks at me "we aren't trying to treat you like a kid, but we must take every precaution to keep you safe."

I jump up and say "I got it now lets go!"
