It was six-thirty. With the sun not yet risen, I walk out of my room only to see that Katy was awake. It was unexpecting, considering she's been sleeping in till about two the last few weeks.
"Katy, what are you doing up so early?" I ask rubbing my eyes.
"I'm going out," she seemed to be in a joyful mood.
"This early, with whom?"
"Derek."
She seemed wide awake. Her makeup was not applied, and she was still in her sleeping clothes.
I grab some water from the mini fridge and sit down near her. Hesitant to talk with her about her new boyfriend, I continue to ask her what I've been wanting to ask her."Can I ask you something?" I ask.
"Go ahead," she finishes the final mouthfuls of her coffee.
"I thought you wanted to stay single."
She gets up from where she was sitting and puts her cup on the counter, "well not anymore."
"Oh, well then why are you up so early? You hate mornings."
"We're going out for some breakfast."
"It shouldn't be this early. You need your rest. You should still be sleeping."
"I should be, but there's other mornings. I appreciate you caring for me. I'm going to get ready okay?"
I wasn't okay with this. I felt like he was changing her. She hates the mornings. She has no patience when it comes to the morning. I felt like something wasn't right. This was leading up to bothering me all day.
With the next hour-and-a-half, Katy was still not finished getting herself ready. About to see what she was doing, the hotel phone rings. Answering it, a woman in the lobby said Derek was ready for Katy in the lobby.
Covering the phone on my shoulder, I yell to her, "Katy! Derek is in the lobby for you!"
She yells to me back, "Tell him I'll be down in five minutes! I have to do one last thing with my hair!"
"Then hurry the hell up!"
I hang the phone up, and ten minutes later, Katy could not find where she placed her phone.
"Huh, that was more than five minutes," I give a smart remark, "by the way, your phone's on the table next to the couch."
She rolls her eyes and grabs her phone. Katy was then overwhelmed that she couldn't find her bag.
"You know what Katy, mornings are just not for you."
"Shut the hell up," she gives me a dirty look and leaves without it.
For the next few hours, I had the hotel to myself. Watching tv, I lie down on the living room couch and fall asleep. Three hours later and in a deep sleep, I do not hear Katy return. Waking, I hear an unfamiliar voice. To my surprise, it was Derek.
They both were snuggled up, flirting with each other. Derek and Katy both saw me get up looking at the tv.
"Hello Derek, nice to meet you," I shake his hand.
"Same with you," he smiles.
After going into the kitchen, he grabs his leather jacket and leaves. I felt I knew him before, but I didn't want Katy to know that. Checking my phone, she tells me she's going down for a nap.
A half hour later, Katy is sound asleep in her room. I leave and meet Shannon at the hotel casino.
"Are you ready," I ask her being upset about Derek.
"Of course. Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not. Katy's new boyfriend is bothering me."
"What's wrong with him?"
Walking to the back of the casino, I try to explain to her why Derek was bothering me.
"I feel I know him, like I've seen him. He looks familiar, honestly. I'm questioning whether it's a good thing for Katy to date him. I just have a bad feeling about it. I don't want to hurt her feelings or anything. So it's really bothering me."
"You might need too."
Taking a seat at a slot machine, I say one more thing before enjoying myself, "She might think I'm trying to sabotage her relationship. I just don't know."
