Chapter 6: The Deserted Dark Orca

A couple of days had passed since they had found Nereus in the docking bay, his memories were painfully slow but eventually coming back to him.

"Nereus are you sure you're fine?" Kaiko asked obsessively glancing over at the man with a bandage around his head sitting behind her as he stared into space

"I'm fine Kaiko and I'm starting to remember certain things," Nereus said coming out of his thoughts as he looked over to Kaiko.

"What about how you bypassed the security system?" Fontaine asked narrowing her eyes turning away from her screen as she took her headphones off.

"I simply knocked and no one responded" Nereus responded displaying a wide smile as he shrugged his shoulders to Fontaine's annoyance.

He was starting to be like his old mysterious self again back to Fontaine's and Kaiko's dismay.

"Do you remember anything else Nereus?" Ant asked looking up from his screen after watching another movie of the Kaiju.

"Not really, all I remember is I was on my rowboat. I was coming here, I wanted to check something but I can't remember what" Nereus replied trying his best to remember what happened after.

"Why were you coming here though, and then how did you end up here?" Fontaine asked still not satisfied with the answers being given to her.

"I don't know, I really don't remember"

"You know Nereus, it is really hard to trust you," Kaiko said turning around to face him fully folding her hands over her chest.

A smile lit his face "I know it is"

"Alpheus?" Ant gasped quietly his eyes widening looking out of the window.

It was a loud whisper as both Kaiko and Fontaine heard him.

"Alpheus?" Fontaine questioned turning to look at Ant.

Kaiko too turned from Nereus to see what her son was talking about.

"No look, Alpheus and The Dark Orca" Ant said pointing outside of the Aronax in the distance.

There in the distance was a rough outline of two subs just barely visible in the murkiness of the water outside. However, they both could clearly be defined, Alpheus's sub and the Dark Orca. The Dark Orca had been broken into, with a tube running from Alpheus's sub through the Dark Orca's sub. Old scraps of rusted metal from the Dark Orca were floating around in the water.

"Oh no" Kaiko muttered to herself seeing the damage, her eyes widened as she realised they could be in danger.

"They must be using their technology so they wouldn't show up on sonar," Fontaine said looking over to the control panel with no objects in sight.

When Alpheus had 'attacked' the Aronax the entire Aronax had flooded. The Dark Orca wouldn't be able to handle those pressures for too long without collapsing in on itself.

"Aronax to Dark Orca, Aronax to Dark Orca do you read?" Kaiko asked pressing the controls to try and get in contact with them.

A loud static noise was all they got in response which echoed through the room.

"Everyone suit up" Kaiko pulling the controls making the Aronax halt, if they were too close they might be caught.

"Will meet us in the moonpool," Kaiko said over her comm still standing up, glancing over her shoulder to check the Dark Orca was still ok.

"What's going on Kaiko, why have we stopped?" Will asked over the comm from the study standing up from the desk.

"See for yourself, meet us in the moon pool room and suit up" Kaiko abruptly said gesturing for Ant and Fontaine to follow to the moon pool.

Nereus not wanting to be left behind to followed. As they reached the moon pool, Will and Odette were already there. Will had already been suited up in the swamp knight and Odette was already in the rover.

As Kaiko and Ant climbed into their knights, Fontaine was about to climb into the mimic knight. She then caught sight of Nereus trying to wander off and leave the moon pool. She jumped off the knight and put her hand in between the door and him.

"Where do you think you're going Nereus," Fontaine asked standing there blocking Nereus exit from the moon pool with her arms crossed and eyebrows raised.

"Uh, nowhere Fontaine" he replied stepping away smiling with lips closed looking suspiciously around the room.

"I'll stay to keep an eye on him," Odette said pressing a button lifting the rover's canopy and stepped out, "he is not staying alone"

"Ok, make sure not to let him out of your sight" Kaiko agreed nodding her head not trusting him at all.

Odette nodded as she picked up her tablet. She controlled the claw using it and one by one placed the knights in the moonpool.

"Now Nereus" she began turning around to where Nereus should have been. She looked around the moon pool for him but he was nowhere to be found.

"Seriously" she muttered under her breath, shutting the moon pool door as she turned looking at the door which was kept wide open.

"Nereus?" She asked with a raised voice walking out of the moon pool.
