CHAPTER SIX
(mate)As Thorn and Catherina entered the home, they couldn't help but share a look at how strangely vacant the space appeared to them.
Edward observed their puzzled expressions and quickly joined their side, ready with the explanation. "Most of the guests who have arrived to witness the event are currently out hunting," he explained. "My family is also out right now, ensuring that none of them accidentally encroach upon the territory of the Quileute pack."
"Where is your daughter?" Catherina asked, turning towards Edward, her gaze fixed solely on him. However, she hadn't noticed the small family portraits adorning the corner shelves. Had she paid closer attention, she would have realized that she was standing within her own brother's home—the very same brother she had long thought had vanished from this world.
"She's currently with my wife at our home," Edward clarified. "Renesmee still needs her sleep," he added, lightly jesting.
Catherina perked up at the mention of the child, her curiosity piqued. However, she refrained from asking too many questions and instead engaged in a casual conversation with the telepath, maintaining a nonchalant demeanor.
Meanwhile, while Thorn diligently bombarded Jacob with one question after another, the Alpha was more than happy to oblige him, unable to resist Thorn's enthusiasm as he delighted in observing his every reaction. As they continued their conversation, Jacob noticed that Thorn reminded him strikingly of Carlisle. He wasn't entirely sure if it was because he spent so much time with the Cullens or if it was merely a coincidence.
Emmett had briefly excused himself, leaving the three others behind to join the only other vampire present in the library. Garrett, who had secluded himself there in his quest to adopt a vegetarian diet, was the sole occupant. Emmett was perplexed by Garrett's abrupt decision; he had no idea what could have sparked this sudden declaration to change his dietary habits.
Having witnessed what Renesmee had shown him, and being surrounded by the company of both the Cullens and the exceptional Denali vampires, Garrett harbored a desire to experience for himself the effects of possessing those captivating and rare golden eyes.
Yet, all thoughts faded from his mind as he became entranced by the scent of the woman who had captured his attention. Unexpectedly, it was not her blood that ensnared him; instead, it was the eccentric fragrance of roses—a spellbinding aroma that weakened him in its captivating embrace.
The internal struggle within him, a craving for human blood, now seemed insignificant, as his focus shifted completely to the captivating fragrance of the woman before him. It was not a compulsion driving his desire; it was a burning passion, an irresistible attraction that drew him to her.
When Emmett entered the library, he noticed the entranced expression on Garrett's face and couldn't help but smirk in amusement. He had witnessed the earlier events, knowing that Garrett had been observing from the balcony, ready to intervene if necessary. However, he had never anticipated that his old friend would find his mate in the form of a witch, of all beings.
