Catherina found comfort and strength in speaking with Carlisle. Their conversation had fortified her spirit and sharpened her resolve for the impending battle. She felt ready to face whatever obstacles may come, prepared to defend herself and protect those she loved.
Catherina's mind wandered, though not in preparation for the inevitable conflict. Instead, she found herself overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of emotions pouring in from every being nearby—a crushing barrage of sensations that threatened to drown her senses.
For Catherina, it was as if the voices around her had spiralled out of control and the volume had been amplified to an almost crippling level. She had even attempted to cast a spell to block them out, but it proved futile against the onslaught of powerful, unregulated emotions swirling around her.
She glanced at her sleeping son, wondering if he too was plagued by the same issue. However, she quickly reassured herself that he was not as sensitive to emotions as she was.
Catherina realized there was no point in forcing herself to sleep, as it would only bring undue stress and affect potential conflicts a week ahead. She quietly got out of bed and silently left the guest bedroom, knowing better than to subject herself to unnecessary suffering.
"Having trouble sleeping?" Catherina's attention was drawn to the sound of her fated pair's low, husky voice. There was an undeniable allure in the power of his words, and it seemed as though the cacophony of voices suddenly dimmed as he spoke. She turned to him, her eyes revealing a hint of weariness.
Garrett could perceive the silent request in Catherina's gaze, the unspoken plea for him to continue speaking. He felt a nervous flutter in his chest, acknowledging the significance of her attention. Rather than being arrogant, he chose to respond to her need, not daring to question her intent.
While Catherina and Garrett had come to accept their shared fate, a part of them still yearned for independence and the freedom to forge their own paths. Though the desire to defy destiny lingered in their minds, it was a weak and almost inconspicuous presence, overwhelmed by the undeniable pull of their fated connection.
Catherina leaned back on the bench, a contemplative look on her face. "Out of everyone here," she began, "only my brother and you seem unfazed by the imminent confrontation with the Volturi."
Garrett chuckled, leaning against the railing and keeping his gaze fixed on Catherina. In her face, he saw the expression of a child struggling to maintain patience or a child who had their candy taken away. He had inadvertently let his guard down, inadvertently making his thoughts clear and audible to Catherina.
Catherina blushed in embarrassment, her pale skin flushing a deep shade of red as she huffed. Despite his non-beating heart, Garrett took in the sight with a mixture of amusement and warmth.
