CHAPTER EIGHT
(renesmee)Bella sat together with her husband and daughter on one of the couches, patiently waiting for Carlisle to take the opportunity to fully catch up with his long-lost little sister. The phrase "little sister" echoed in everyone's minds, excluding Esme, who was well-aware of Catherina's existence. Even Edward, as the first member of the coven, had never known anything about her.
While Edward was not disappointed, understanding that there was much he still needed to learn about his adopted father, he acknowledged the mysterious gaps in Carlisle's memories. Carlisle had disclosed that he didn't even know his birthday or real age, prompting Edward to realize that the strange sense of familiarity he had experienced while meeting Catherina, the witch he had met only the previous day, was now making sense.
Edward's gaze shifted toward Bella, who had been silently observing the interaction between Catherina and her son, Thornton.
Catherina — was a petite, soft-spoken witch who shared an uncanny resemblance to her brother Carlisle, most notable in her empathetic gaze that mirrored his compassionate demeanor. It was almost impossible not to recognize the familial connection between them.
Thornton — an affable wizard with a demeanor reminiscent of a younger Carlisle, had a relaxed and easygoing nature about him, yet beneath the surface, a subtle air of danger lingered, especially when it came to his mother. It was clear that messing with her was a line best not crossed.
Bella leaned in close to her husband, whispering low enough for only him to hear, "How do you think they found out about our situation?" she questioned, her fingers delicately threading through the soft hair of their daughter, Renesmee.
Edward's smile was soft as he replied, "Alice and Jasper."
Bella nodded, wondering aloud, "Do you think they knew who she was?"
"Quite likely," Edward responded, leaning back on the couch. "Alice might have known or simply had a vision involving them." With a sigh, Bella agreed, acknowledging that Alice's precognitive abilities were undoubtedly at play. The couple was grateful for any assistance provided, especially in their current circumstances.
Bella understood the importance of patiently awaiting answers rather than pushing for further explanations. Carlisle, a central figure in the coven, had sacrificed so much for them. Witnessing him reunite with a piece of his past, each of his adopted children wanted to give him the chance to connect with his sister. While the current circumstances were not ideal for a leisurely cup of tea and reminiscing, reunions with siblings after centuries apart were not an everyday occurrence.
While Carlisle engaged in conversation with his nephew, Thornton, Catherina subtly shifted her body to face the assembled group. She had momentarily forgotten about their presence, except for her mate, whom she found more cautious in the room. Despite stealing a few glances his way, she was determined not to concede defeat so quickly.
