Ink ran through the night after the criminals they had been searching for the past few weeks. He glanced to his side and saw that his partner, Geno, was keeping pace, despite having a giant bleeding gash on his chest and a glitch cloud over his right eye. The two police pursued the shadowy figures into a dead-end alleyway. The criminals spun around to face the officers.
"We've got you cornered!" Ink called. "Come quietly or we'll have to use force!"
Ink knew that was probably one of the most cliche lines for a police officer ever, but it was mandatory.
The figure on the left suddenly summoned some strange things that looked like blue threads and picked himself and the other criminal up. Great, thought Ink, they have magic. Select few in the monster city had special abilities, such as Geno and Ink himself, and it turns out the criminal was one of them. It helped explain why they had been so successful in the past years in escaping authorities, though.
The criminals were wanted for robbery, arson, and holding hostages for ransom, to name a few of their many felonies. They have eluded all the cops on their case for nearly the last five years. Ink and Geno were the newest police on this case.
As the two figures disappeared, he heard one call,
"Not today!"
****************
Ink slammed his hands down on the desk.
"We were this close!" He yelled, exasperated. "This fricken close!"
"I know," Geno said to the other colorful skeleton. "You've only stated so about 20 times within the last hour," he said with a wry smile.
Ink huffed, crossing his arms. "Well it's true!"
Geno glanced at the clock. They had spent the last hour and a half at the police station, reporting the encounter with the suspects. He sighed again
"We should probably head home," he declared. "You do realize it's past 11 at night, right?"
Ink smirked. "When do I ever know the time?"
Geno grinned and stood up.
"I'm heading home and you probably should too," he advised Ink.
"Sure, sure," Ink said absentmindedly, once again going over the manila folder they had compiled of the criminals.
"See you tomorrow."
