"Abigail!" Her father's voice hollered and the sound of his fist pounded on her door. She snapped awake from the unexpected bang and gasped. The blanket that was over her flew off her body, from her being in a rush to stand. That familiar sharp pain went through her leg when she did, making her wince and close her eyes. With some quick breaths, her green eyes looked over to her door and her body limped on over to it. The banging hadn't ceased, it kept going on, and on until she reached the door.
When she opened it, her drunk father waltzed in with fury in his eyes. "Where's the rest of that money, your mom gave you?!" He yelled angrily and stood there with a tight grip on his glass bottle.
"I spent it on the oil and gasoline as you asked me to!" Abigail exclaimed in panic and took a step back.
"Then where's the change and the receipt?!" he asked with rage and stepped closer a bit.
"I don't remember, let me check," Her voice grew quiet and she tried to calm herself before anything bad happened. Her hand dug into her pocket and the sound of paper crinkled in there. With a swift movement, she handed the receipt to him and he snatched it without looking at it. He unfolded it and saw that it was exactly what he was looking for, then his eyes met hers once more.
"The change...?" he questioned. She just shook her head and turned all of her pockets inside out, to prove her point. "You're lying girl, where is it? With the money she gave you, there should've been some leftover!" he raised his voice again and stepped closer.
"I promise you, those oil and gas cans took all of it! Didn't you read the receipt?!" Panic was rising in her now, she knew how aggressive her dad can be when he's drunk. Seeing him look at the paper again, a scowl became evident and he looked up at her again.
"The cashier must've cheated you out of it because it's not supposed to be that much! This is your fault! If you were paying attention, you would've been able to stop the cashier from doing this! Two more weeks! Two more weeks of you being grounded!" he yelled with a threatening step forward.
"I'm sorry, my leg hurts! I had to walk five miles on my bad leg back and forth, and had to carry the bags all by myself! I couldn't think straight with the pain!" she raised her voice in fear and backed away. She was getting scared, the feeling of her dad getting more over the edge was frightening.
"Excuses! That's all you seem to use lately, nothing but excuses!" He screamed, walked up to her fast, and raised the backside of his hand. He was getting ready to smack her until he grunted. Something strong hit him on the back of the neck, causing the man to fall forward unconscious. His body landed with a thud. All was quiet now and when Abigail looked up to see who did that, nobody was there. It was as if someone decided to step in and save her.
The feeling of her heart pounding against her rib cage was strong and the sound of it racing, felt as if it could be heard by others. The mattress that her rear sat on without knowing, soon became noticeable and soft. Her hand rose to cover her mouth and her head averted from her father's unconscious body. Tears strolled down her cheeks, so when she closed her green eyes more fell. "I'm so tired of this!" she exclaimed with her words being muffled. Her body leaned over and her elbows laid on her knees, with her hands now covering her face to hide her crying features. "I'm so sick of this! I just wanna die and get it over with, I'm so tired of putting up with this pain!" she added. Her words were still muffled and her dark brown, wavy hair, brushed past the sides of her face.
