"That'll be eleven dollars and eight cents," the clerk said. I handed him the money that my mom gave Emily and I, and we left the small shop with our smoothies. In California it was only sunny; now that seems like a stereotype but from what I had seen, it was true. We sat down outside at a small, cutemetal table and looked around us.

My mom had to come to California for some "secret work stuff", and her work was paying to take her and two other people. So we invited Emily along to keep me company because most of the time my mom was working.

This would have had to be on of my favorite memories of all time. Emily and I were only about thirteen at the time, so this was about a year ago. Actually last summer. There was teenagers going by on long boards and penny boards. Every one was wearing all the latest trends and the air was hot and humid. Because of where we were, we could hear the waves crashing onto the beach. It was literally the perfect moment.

I was talking to Emily about possibly living here one day while I was looking around at all the people. They just came and went with their daily lives, but for the two of us, this was a whole new experience. Adults were busy on their phones, or trying to look after their kids. Teenagers walked around like they knew this place like the back of their hands. Couples laughed and stared at each other with admiration. But as I was looking through these groups of people, I saw it.
