The Cemetery

(Ash's POV)

After I narrated the contents of the diary to Cilan, he got up from the couch and went towards my desk. He picked up one of the pictures lying over there and started examining it.

"So what do you think?", I questioned.
"I think we should pay a visit to the cemetery near the hills."
"The place where she was last seen....."
"I have a feeling that her sister was buried there"
"Hmm......now that I think about it, you may be right. It's a suitable place for them to bury it as there is no sort of funeral conducted. There is nobody else except a caretaker who occasionally visits for maintenance purposes as far as I've heard."
"Shall we go then?"
I nodded and grabbed my keys.

~~~ time skip ~~~
We had finally arrived. It was getting a little dark due to the clouds which covered the sky like  a blanket. This cemetery gave me strange vibes. There were only a few graves which lay scattered around the place, it was located amidst the hills and a lake could be clearly viewed from up there....the very lake where she was assumed to have drowned.
We walked on the ragged path which was once believed to have been perfectly laid with marble. We started our search for Daisy's grave which wasn't much of a task. We had found it in no time.
It looked worn-out and the writings had started to fade. Upon it lay a withered flower which was partially crushed underneath the weight of a little box. Cilan reached out for the box and opened it. He pulled out a piece of paper and started reading it. While he was doing so, I cast a look around the graveyard. There was another grave next to it which was looked newly built compared to all the other graves.
It had a big 'H' carved on it instead of a name. A peculiar thing about it was that it only had the year of birth written on it.
'Strange', I thought. That's when Cilan had finished reading the piece of paper.
"What did you find out?", I asked.
"This letter was written by Misty to her dead sister. She had probably written it here. Give it a read", he replied while handing me the letter.
Dear Daisy,
I've finally found you. I wish I could have stayed with you for long. It's strange to suddenly recall that you had a sister but unfortunately she is dead.
As you had predicted, I am being attacked and followed. There was truck near the lake while I came. I have got a strange feeling about it. Do you think that I've been recognized by the one who killed you?
I hope that my words reach you, even though I know they won't....
Misty.
I folded the letter and placed it in the box and returned it to where it belonged.
"Do you think the truck collided with her car on purpose?", I asked.
"Could be"
"There's no way to find the truck any more. Is that really it? Are we missing something?"
Both of us remained silent, deep in our thoughts.
"May", Cilan spoke up.
"Huh?"
"I had seen a picture of May, Misty and Dawn together"
"That's right! She might be able to tell us about Misty", I said hopefully.
"Do you have her contact?", he asked.
"Unfortunately, no", I replied grimly.
"Let's go back and pay a little visit to my dear cousin. Might as well update him with recent findings"
"I guess"
While we were driving to Drew's, I noticed Cilan deep in thought.
"What's wrong?", I asked.
"Why was the letter in a box?", he questioned me.
"Never thought of that...",I was taken aback by his sudden question.
"As far as I've known, people usually place it in an envelope or something. Moreover, it's been years since she wrote that letter, yet it looked like it was written on a fresh piece of paper."
"Do you mean to say that either the letter was written recently or she wanted to preserve it?"
"Could be anything. But I feel as if she wanted someone to read it."
"She's probably dropping hints about what happened to her", I replied.
"That may be the case. She stated that there was a truck. There must be other clues which she left."
~~~
We reached Drew's house and knocked  the door. After we entered he offered us a cup of tea and asked for the reason to visit. We started explaining everything we knew. He was certainly not expecting that. He was surprised but still maintained a straight face.
"Well, best of luck. You are quite aware that I  can't help you", Drew said.
"You are wrong cousin. We need a little help from you."
"What do you want?",  he asked, confused.
"Just your girlfriend's number", said Cilan with a straight face.
"May is not my girlfriend!!!", replied an agitated Drew.
"I never said it".
I chuckled. I've never seen him so embarrassed.
"Whose number do you want then?", he asked again trying to avoid any sort of further discussion.
"May's"
"Couldn't you just ask it directly?!"
"Nope"
"Ugh... I'm sending it to you", he gave up.
"Thanks", we left.

~~~~
We drove back to my place and decided to call May as soon as we reached home.
"Hello, is this May?", I ask.
"Yes, may I know who is speaking?"
"It's Ash, remember?"
"Hey Ash! It's been ages. I've heard a lot about you."
"Well....I needed to ask you something.."
"Sure, go ahead"
"Did you know someone named Misty? Misty Waterflower?"
"........."
"You there?"
"....yes.....I knew her"
