The entire planet was destroyed. It was the vampires' world, and humans were just living in it...

No. That was the only thought that popped into Taehyung's mind as he stared ahead. He would not let himself be taken away like the rest of humanity. He turned to Felix, a look of desperation on his face.

"I don't want to go." Felix, the camp leader at the Human Society, sighed and rubbed his temples.

"Tae, we've been over this. Just because you're my best friend, it doesn't mean I can excuse you from scavenger duty. It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the people in the camp." Guilt flashed across Felix's handsome features. Taehyung turned away, anger boiling inside of him.

He didn't want to get taken away.

And yet, he knew that Felix was doing what a camp leader should do: make everything equal among everyone. The last thing they needed was to go against each other, especially with a war raging on outside of the wooden walls.

The Human Society was a survival camp made up of the last humans left on Earth. After the apocalypse, the population went from 8 billion to 153. Taehyung was still taken aback at how close their species was to extinction.

The apocalypse came suddenly. It was so unexpected that the humans were unprepared, nor had they expected anything like this to happen in the first place. Hell, no one even knew that vampires existed. It was all fantasy.

Until that one fateful day. It wasn't like an alien apocalypse. The vampires didn't arrive in a spaceship, or some form of aircraft. They came out of nowhere, rampaging on foot through cities and villages. They took everything. Food, resources, lives.

It was tragic.

Taehyung remembered watching his parents get taken away. After that, he vowed to never let the vampires take him away. If he was strong enough, he'd even make them pay.

But he wasn't strong enough. No one was. And while the camp had been trying to find weaponry against vampires for years, they weren't able to come up with anything that could protect them. With the population so close to extinction, humans couldn't take any chances. They couldn't fight.

The vampires had won.

The only thing the humans could do was stay within their wooden walls, trying to stay civilised in the small space they had. People would be sent out on scavenger duty, mainly to look for food, water, and other important resources. While supply was limited, they managed to make it work.

There were only 153 of them, after all.

Taehyung sighed and grabbed the black bag that scavengers were supposed to bring with them. If I get this thing heavy enough, I could use it as a weapon. Taehyung pushed the thought out of his mind. He wouldn't need to use a weapon, because he wouldn't come across any vampires. Nope. Not a single one.

Slinging the bag over his shoulder, he turned around to see who his partner would be. His eyes landed on the small figure that was heaving a black bag of his own onto his back. Taehyung walked over to him.

"Ready?" He asked. The boy, only a few years younger than him and who's name was Beomgyu, nodded his head.

"Ready."

The two boys headed out of the safety of the wooden walls and into the outside world. The dangerous outside world.
