It was one of those grimy clubs, sweat on the walls and a mass of bodies grinding against one another. Their shadows on the walls like a snake pit, writhing to the kind of music you despised.
The drums thudded with your heartbeat and as you swayed a little downing your drink trying your best to ignore the stranger trying to rub himself up against you. Trying your best to swat his hand away every time he tried to sneak it up your skirt, you asked yourself again why you'd agreed to follow two strangers to such a dive when all you'd really wanted was to go home.
"Listen girl listen girl, you're angry with me arent you, you're stroppy..." he leant in to shout in your ear, undeterred when you stepped away, stretched up to try and look over the crowd, searching for your cousin.
It had been her idea to go out, it was almost always her idea to go out and though after last time you had sworn you would never let her talk you into setting foot in one of these vile clubs again, here you were, half hearted and drinking twice as quickly as Jen just to stay sane.
You weren't sure what time it was but it felt as if you had been there for hours and as you fought your way through the crowd to the bar your feet throbbed and stung. Heals weren't your thing and yet here you were, in a dress too short for October and a pair of heels you would sooner burn than dance in for much longer.
You leant on the bar, rested your head in your hands and closed your eyes trying to find a little peace. Imagining you were someplace else just for a second.
"There are more peaceful places to sleep you know lass,"
His voice was not the sort of voice you were expecting to hear in a place like that, his accent wasn't the right sort of accent, and when you opened your eyes and met his you realised that he wasn't the sort of man you'd expected either.
"I can think of several but alas," you let out a little sigh, almost sulking, one of those smirks that meant you were grin and bearing it. He cracked a laugh.
"You look like you'd rather be litterally anywhere else," he chuckled, leaning forward on his elbows, copying you with his head sinking to rest in his arms. He was mocking you, there was a cheeky twinkle in his eyes daring you to say something clever, to challenge him, but you were drunk and tired and too wound up. Sullen and sulking and so you just shrugged.
"Somet like that yeah," you sighed rolling your eyes, the warmth in his tempting and tugging a small smile onto your lips.
"You know somethin lass," he smirked, "so would i," and then, when you yawned he yawned too, a little more dramatic, exaggerating his stretched and the crack of his jaw, all hand over his mouth and shaking his head so that the curls which escaoed from under his flatcap, a seemingly odd accessory for this establishment, shook too and stuck in his eyes.
You bit back a grin and pushed yourself and up and turned to check over your shoulder for Jen, heart sinking when you failed to spot her once again.
He saw the turmoil in your eyes, the tug of your teeth on your lips, the sudden wave of anxiety washing over you and when he reached out to touch your hand on the bar and you flinched away, he regretted his decision instantly.
"Sorry love," he said, flinching away himself, almost hesitant, "who are you looking for?" he asked almost slipping from his stool, losing his balance for a moment. The confusion and shock which flashed in his eyes might have made you laugh if it was any other night but you weren't really in the mood to laugh.
"My cousin," you started pushing yourself up, standing on tiptoes and stretching your neck up to try and spy her. Youd expected him to wander off, drunk enough to forget you in fifteen minutes but when you realised that he was still lingering there and watching you you chewed your cheek. Tried to think of something useful to say. "Her names Jen shes uh, shes tall?" you winced realising how drunk you really were when you struggled even to slur out some vague description.
