I entered my room and let out a sigh. I can finally relax and have some peace, no stress from everything happening. I took the time to change my jeans, trading them for sweatpants. I felt comfortable with the hoddie so I think I'll keep it on for now.
I laid down on my couch, taking my laptop with me. I used it to play some random games on the net, read random things about world news or anything really, watched videos and other stuff. I would occasionally check my phone to see if there were any notifications.
When I got bored with my computer, I turned on my video game console to play online with a few more people from the net, having fun playing a multiplayer game where we shot each other until our team reaches a certain amount of 'kills' to win. It sounds violent but the graphics aren't so good and the characters use in the game weren't realistic.
Many parents would ban their kids to buy the game, it is rated 17+. My parents couldn't care less, I'm not the type to be scared to small details like blood, violence or murder in video games and movies.
My phone buzzed. I looked at the screen to see an incoming call from Jackson. I picked up the phone. "Yes?" I asked, laying on my sofa. "Paige, where are you?" He seemed rather alarmed. "I'm home, in my room, why so?" There was a small pause on the line, making me a bit nervous. "Leave now, run away as fast as you can, you need to go." He rambled on quickly and nervously.
"Jackson, what is going on?" I asked, starting to pace around my room. "Paige, do you trust me?" "I do?" He inhaled." Paige, Kiera and I believe that your father is working for the leader of Crow Crew." I felt my breath catch in my throat, completely shocked. "Paige, please listen and run now, please..." He said. I hung up on Jackson.
I stood in shock in the middle of my room, looking at the now dark screen of my phone. I couldn't start to understand how my father would be on their suspect list. I felt rather scared of Jackson's anxious voice but I couldn't help but doubt him.
I pulled out my computer chair and sat, placing my phone on my lap and rubbing my face with my hands to try and help soothe the forming headache. I let out a long, shaky sigh as I starred at my desk.
A memory from the night my father's friends we're over started to surface in my mind. The notebook, the odd expressions they had, how cold and mysterious everyone was. I could remember the ambiance of the moment, it was one of mystery, a tint of danger and risk along with icy stares.
The way they acted when playing cards, how confident they all were even if they risked losing; not that they would mind much as they probably loved the alcohol.
Then the notebook. The words are written in nice, bold black letters on the cover. The other papers they hid when I walked in.
I didn't want to believe it, but I know that my dad doesn't work in any investigation companies and he's often gone. The odds were all in favour of the two inhuman creatures, even if I don't want to admit it.
I looked around my room quickly, standing to take my phone charger and earbuds. I was trembling. Stress, fear, betrayal and sadness all rushed around inside of me as I hurried back upstairs. I tried to do a straight face when I passed by the kitchen, I could feel my father's eyes on me.
I swallowed, feeling my throat tighten a bit as I walked by. Keeping my calm is harder than it seems, I am sure he could feel something was off. I put on my coat and shoes before yelling out "I'm going out with a friend!" so he doesn't suspect anything.
I ran out of the door to fast to even hear him reply, I shut the door and ran. I didn't know where I was running to, just as long as I got far enough from my father. To think that, Scott Hill, My father, was associated with such crimes... If he ever gets a hint on what Jackson, Kiera and I are planning, I am dead, I just know it.
