With much effort and convincing myself, I peeked one of my eyes open. I saw a blur of colour; white and blue were the first things that I saw. I heard something move beside me, making very little noise and a loud steady beeping, the noises being enough for it to be almost annoying.
"Paige? Paige, can you hear me?" The person said quietly, sounding like a distant voice in my mind. I managed to nod my head a bit, very lightly but enough so the person could tell. I heard a sigh of relief beside me and then something on my hand.
I looked down, my eyes adjust a bit to the very bright lights and clearing up just a bit. I saw someone else's hand holding mine very lightly, probably too scared to hold it any tighter, as if it would break.
When I looked up to see who's holding my hand, I was almost surprised to see Jackson. "Good morning sunshine! What do you want for breakfast? A croissant? Or maybe a cinnamon bun? I can't forget the coffee." He said in a playful tone as if nothing happened.
I was a bit confused about what was going on, so I ignored the question for now and looked around. I saw that the place only had white walls, dark blue curtains, a white tile floor and very bright lights. I looked up, besides Jackson to see a heart monitor, explaining the annoying beeping noise.
"Hello, I know you can hear me." He said, pouting a bit as he tried to get my attention again. I let out a dry laugh and looked back at Jackson. "I'll start with a bit of water, please," I told him, feeling like I was about to be completely dried out. He nods and jumps out of his seat, leaving to get me some water.
I just then realized he had a thick blue cast on his arm, a bandage to hold it in place. His arm must have been pretty bad if he couldn't heal himself quickly. I also realized that my own body was covered in bandages and had a few tubes going in my body, probably to help me stay alive this whole time.
I saw a doctor pass by and walk up to me. He smiled down at me and flipped a few pages on his clipboard, noting a few things on it as he gave me a warm smile and took a few glances at me. He then checked the monitors and other stuff, asked me a few questions to know if I was comfortable, if I could hear him well, if I felt any pain or discomfort and much more.
"You seem to be healing up rather fast and well. That's amazing news." The doctor said with a happy tone, placing his flipped pages back down to their rightful place on the clipboard. I smiled at the news, nodding a bit.
"I have a question though." I said to the doctor, making him hum a bit before asking: "What is it?" I looked at the doctor and let out a small, embarrassed laugh. "What day are we?" He chuckled and smiled a bit towards me. "We are Saturday today." I nodded and thanked him before he turned around to take his leave.
As he walked through the doorway, he almost bumped into Jackson, who was balancing a tray with food and drinks in his right hand. The doctor apologized and took the tray from him, even though Jackson protested and claimed he could manage. The doctor ignored him and placed the tray on a nearby table, smiling at Jackson before leaving.
Jackson grumbled and brought the table a bit closer, bringing his chair back right after; the doctor moved it to be able to do his examinations without having it in the way. He sat back down in his chair and brought the tray closer so he didn't have to stretch out to get stuff.
He helped me sit up so I wouldn't accidentally open the injuries I had and placed a few pillows behind me to help me stay like that. He then opened a bottle of water, handing it to me carefully as I gently moved my arms and hands to take it on my own, drinking it rather quickly.
