Lance's POV
I get Keith some ice from behind the bar and wrap it in my spare shirt. It's this awesome All Time Low shirt that I got from-well, I stole it-but I 'got it' from a concert of theirs. I was gonna wear that one home because I'm always sweaty after a show, perks of being a drummer, but Keith needs it more I guess.
"Here" I lay the makeshift ice pack on Keith's eye, which is already swollen and turning dark purples.
"Thanks. Looks like you're my knight in shining armour today huh?"
I blush, oddly happy he can't see my face right now. This is just from him hitting his head, right? He doesn't mean it. Yeah he's gay, but he doesn't like me. He can't. He's Keith! And even if he did like me, it's not like I'd like him back! This is ridiculous! I don't have feelings for Keith! Even if I did nothing could happen! We're in a band together! We can't ruin this band because we think we're in love or some shit. I mean obviously that would never happen, I'm just saying!
Ugh, just shut up Lance!! I tell myself. I know I'm not gay. Whatever. Just get back to fixing Keith's fucked up head."Lance?" He asks. I clear my throat, then answer. "Yeah? What's up?"
"I asked you how the show went."
"Oh." I laugh, "it was great. You did really great. It was a good idea to change the vocal style. You sounded good, it was a nice balance between the loud instrumentals."
"Thanks."It's quiet for a minute, when Keith reaches for my hand. When he finds it he smiles a little and holds on tightly. We sit there quietly, holding each other's hands before I look down and notice he's bleeding.
"Shit." I mutter, looking around for a first aid kit or something.
"What's wrong?" He asks, pulling his hand away. I feel guilty, I know he thinks he did something wrong.
"Oh, you're just bleeding. Nothing too bad I don't think. I'll get you cleaned up and then we can go to the hospital." Keith nods, and becomes silent again.
"Sit up, will ya? I can't patch you up if I can't see the wound!" I say comically.
"Aye aye, captain"I chuckle, unaware of what else to do. "Shut up and let me work!"
"What are you, a nurse or something?!"
Then I stop smiling. I mumble something about finding a bandaid and leave the dressing room, grab the first aid kit that's behind the bar, and sit back there for a short while. Do I tell him? I mean I kinda have to right? But if I do he's gonna give me that pity look and feel bad for me and our relationship will never be the same. I mean everything's been great with the band so far and no one knows.
Come on Lance. You know you need to tell him.
I hate myself for thinking that, but it's true. I need to tell him. I drink a shots worth of tequila from one of the bottle behind the bar and go back into the dressing room slowly. I sit awkwardly on the couch beside the now upright Keith, and click open the box, looking for alcohol wipes.
"Lance?"
"Yeah?" I say quietly.
"Why'd you leave?"
"I uhh- I had to go get the stuff to patch you up."
"But you didn't say anything when you left. I thought...it's stupid, but I thought you left me or something."
"I-I didn't mean to..."
"It was something I said?"
"Yeah, it was."
"Sorry. I didn't mean to...But if you don't mind me asking, what did I do?" He asks cautiously.
"I uhh...it's a long story."
"We've got the time you know." Keith smirks, and I can't help but smile. I tell him the story as I tend to his wounds.
"It's no shock, but I came from a poor ass family. I was gonna be the only one in my family to go to college." I say, dabbing the alcohol wipe at the blood. "I wanted to be a nurse, but then...well, let's just say it didn't work out. That's when I found music. I taught myself how to play drums from online classes and YouTube and shit and yeah. Here I am now."
"I didn't know that."
"Yeah, well it doesn't matter anymore. We've got Voltron now, we're semi-successful!" I joke, trying to lighten the mood and bring the attention off of myself.Keith laughs, and I savour every moment of it, unaware of why I'm doing it.
"Let's get you to the hospital. I think you've got a concussion."
"Thanks. Hey, Lance?"
"Yep?"
"I think you would've been a great nurse. In another lifetime."
"Thanks." I mutter, pulling Keith to his feet and wrapping his arm around my neck. "In another lifetime." I repeat.
