Feathers of the Same Bird

"My family is moving to Canada in three days time. We'll be staying there indefinitely."

"So you're saying we might never see each other again?" Anesu was really upset to know her friend was leaving the country, probably for good. Harmony nodded to confirm this without saying anymore words. Words are such a heavy burden when you bid your closest friend goodbye. That is why some just go...quietly. "But Harmie you're my best friend since kindergarten. You're like a sister..."

"I know Ane...but even the best people come and go sometimes."

"It's not supposed to be like that" Anesu shed tears. She was always the most emotional one of the two.

"But it is..."

Anesu and Harmony went fifteen years back to kindergarten. They went to the same junior and secondary schools and people everywhere thought they were related. They were so close that in a certain period of their friendship they almost looked identical. Well, that was during adolescence. They wore the same make-up. They had a similar taste in fashion..., you know girls and fashion. They had similar choice in boys that they dated the same guy in a week unknowingly in high school but still their friendship survived this mischance.

"Remember what we always said about ourselves, Harmie"

"That, feathers of the same bird stick together?"

"Yes"

Whilst they talked, two little feathers of a crow in flight fluttered in the air till they reached the ground near the two girls. One feather fell on the tarred road and the other on a flat rock at the side of the road. They both witnessed this revelation. "Feathers of the same bird don't always stick together" they both concluded in their minds. They fell in each other's embrace for the whole minute and then finally said, "Goodbye".

It did not take time for Anesu to realise that Harmony was not the only one who shared her interests. There were dozens of other people around her that she was too blinded, by her friendship with Harmony, to see. She knew from that time that some friends are only for a day, a year, ten years and for life; but they all have something precious to offer at their given time.
