When the meeting was over, I returned to my room still trying to sort everything out in my mind. Chloe was back in the room and still awake. Although I didnt know her well she was the closest I had to a friend. So I told her everything.

"Wow you're a half-breed like me! Well almost...at least you're supernatural all the way around." She sighed as she changed into her black and red pajamas.

We chatted back and forth as we laid on our beds. When I heard Chloe's slowed breathing I turned over and tried to go to sleep as well. Apparently the cloaking spell had hidden my vampirism. Dimitri had warned me I may develop a craving for blood soon.

They'd claimed that a hybrid of two species (besides supernatural and human) was unheard of. So no one really knew what my gifts would be. Would I be a bloodsucker with magic? Would nature reject me altogether due to my vampire side? The discovery had only added more questions. Finally after a few hours of trying to answer my own questions I drifted off to sleep....

I watched as a tiny baby wrapped in a pink fuzzy blanket was carefully placed in a tan basket. The little one was crying at the top of its lungs. Her skin was still a deep shade of pink. She couldn't have been born no more than an hour as before. Everything faded to black besides the sounds of the infants cries...

I watched as Silus placed the basket on the front steps of the orphanage. He stroked the child's cheek affectionately before disappearing into the night. As quick as he disappeared, a woman appeared. I immediately recognized my mother.

It was odd seeing her in modern clothing. Her usual brown waves lay completely straight around her flawless face. She was dressed in a plain teal t-shirt, skinny Jean's, and a cute pair of flats. She seemed way too perfect to be the dark witch.

She knelt over the basket peering down at her daughter. The infant immediately stopped crying at her touch. Tears dripped from the dark witch's face. She carefully unclasped the amulet from around her neck and placed it in the basket. She slipped a scrap of paper in after it.

"Mommy loves you so much, Josie. I never thought I was capable of loving anyone until I saw you. You'll be safe here baby." she whispered into the basket. When she disappeared the infant began to cry again. The yard flooded with light as the front door opened. Mary scooped the crying baby up in shock....

I awoke abruptly to the sound of knocking. I glanced around as I realized I was in my new dorm. Chloe laid unmoving in her bed. I opened the door to find Amelia grinning at me.

"I brought breakfast," she sang as she danced past me. She laid a tray of food on my nightstand before seating herself on my bed.

"Its Saturday, professor!" Chloe groaned from under her blanket.

"Well I didnt come to see you so feel free to sleep in!" She answered motioning for me to come join her on my bed. If anyone else had said that it would've sounded rude. I don't believe anything could sound rude coming from Amelia's mouth.

"May I see the amulet your mother left you?" She asked. With a mouthful of food I just nodded and pointed toward my pillow. Amelia reached underneath it and pulled out the necklace. She took a moment to examine it.

"Hmmm exactly as I thought." She murmured as she rotated it in her tiny fingers.

"What?" I asked after I had swallowed my food. All that was left on my plate was eggs. I'd never been much of a fan. The breakfast was delicious but nothing could compare to Mary's cooking.

I couldnt help but feel a little homesick. Mary was probably calling the children down for breakfast about now. I could almost see them racing down the stairs. Mary would scold them of course. Running in the house was one of her pet peeves. Then she would hand them each a plate and they would dig in.

"This amulet is linked to your mother. It's a very common tradition for witches. They can link themselves to an object, person, or even a pet that is of value to them. Once linked the object can store their memories, feelings, or even some of their power." She explained placing it on my nightstand carefully.

"Do you think it's her memories I'm seeing?"

"I remember you saying at first it was just dreams of you trying to find her. I believe since you were in the human's territory the amulet didnt have enough power to release her memories. Now that you're here it seems it has the power to give them to you."

"I dreamt of Silus leaving me at the orphanage. If it's really her memories then it was her who came after him." I  told her. She didnt seem surprised.

"I believe it is true. If it truly is then that would mean one of the members of Evelyn's coven was a follower of Anna's. They must have helped her escape when the coven thought they destroyed her."

I remembered Silus had mentioned the coven locking her away then killing her after she escaped and attacked the school.

"Good luck telling Evelyn that." I snorted.

"I'd like to keep that just between us. Until we have solid evidence theres not sense in pointing fingers."

I nodded in agreement. She rose to her feet and handed me a folded piece of paper.

"This is your class schedule starting Monday. Silus will be by later to give you a tour." She smiled hugging me as if we had known each other forever. I watched as she pranced out the door.

Chloe rolled out of bed. Her black hair was sticking up in every direction. Her eyeliner was smeared all over her pale face.

"I thought she'd never leave," she mumbled as she made her way to the bathroom.

I used the spare time I had to unpack my suitcases. Mary had slipped a bag of her famous chocolate chip cookies in one of them. I smiled at the sweet gesture. It only made me miss her more. I hid them in the drawer of my nightstand. They would come in handy on the nights I was really homesick.

I hung all my clothes in the small closet. I didnt have very many clothes. I hoped there would be time to go buy more soon. Just as I placed my last shirt in the closet someone knocked on the door.

"Come in!" I called out. I could hear the shower running in the bathroom. Chloe wouldn't be coming out anytime soon. Silus walked into my room. My stomach turned to knots as I watched Ian walk in behind him.
