Anger consumed me even faster than the fire had consumed the building. I jumped to my feet. Shadow demons flew all around feeding off of everyone's fear. The power within me vibrated through my bones. I shot an innumerable amount of fire balls at the demon that had latched onto Ian.

It flew back away from him with a creepy hiss. It seemed I'd gained all of the Shadow Demon's attention. They began to circle me as I had become their desired prey. Ian still lay on the ground unmoving. His beautiful eyes were wide in shock. Probably reliving the horrific events of his parents death.

The ground shook as my anger intensified. An invisible blast of energy shot from me and hit the demons sending them all flying. They all began to shriek in unison as they tried to fly back at me. Another blast hit them with such force they began to disentergrate before my very eyes.

Dimitri stared at me in complete shock.

"Did you just freaking melt demons?" He gasped, " I'm glad you didn't use that trick on me in combat training."

I was just as in shock as he was but Ian was my main concern. I knelt beside him and shook him gently.

"Ian? Its Josie, please wake up."

His eyes were still open wide and unresponsive.

"He will be like that for awhile." Dimitri informed me as he helped nearby students to their feet.

"For how long?" I cried.

"Its according to how deep the Demon traveled into his subconscious." He explained.

He slung Ian over his shoulder and headed back toward the school. I watched as other students proceeded to carry other victims of the demons. This had to have been my mothers doings. What was she trying to prove?

Back at the school my father informed everyone that no one had been harmed in the fire. Evelyn had performed a protection spell that kept the fire from actually doing damage. The fairy wing stood unharmed. I was thankful my room was unharmed even though that wasn't as important as everyone's lives.

Dimitri carried Ian to his dorm room and laid him on the bed. I sat by his side holding his hand.

"Once a Shadow Demon latches on and uses a person's worst fear it's kind of like a mental fight. He's got to fight his way out of it but he will wake up, Josie." Dimitri assured me planting a fatherly kiss on my forehead before leaving.

"I'm so glad you're okay!" Chloe cried rushing in to hug me.

"I'm glad you are too, Chloe!" I sighed in relief. She glanced down at Ian.

"Is he going to be okay?" She asked with concern.

"Yeah it's just a waiting game right now."

I wished he would wake up. It hurt me more than anything to see him laying here with an expression of agony. I could only imagine what the demon had implanted in his mind.

"How is he?" Amelia fluttered in the room. She examined Ian's face curiously.

"Hes still stuck wherever that thing put him," I replied squeezing his hand tighter.

"Dimitri mentioned you were asking questions about shadow demons," she  whispered.

"Yeah. No one else was going to give me the answers I needed." I didnt do a good job at hiding the bitterness in my voice.

"I'm sorry, Josie. I promise I'll tell you everything I know tonight." She squeezed my other hand.

Even after everyone left I stayed by Ian's side.

I awoke the next morning lying across his bed. I glanced around in confusion. I must had fallen asleep.

Ian came out of the bathroom. I ran and jumped in his arms.

"I'm so glad you're awake!" I cheered hugging him as if I'd never let him go. He gave me a weak smile before letting me go.

"Are you okay?" I asked quietly.

"I think so..." his voice was barely a whisper.

"You probably just need to rest. I'll let you have some time and I'll come check on you later." I kissed him on the cheek before leaving.

I couldnt get his haunted expression out of my head. Whatever that demon had showed him had really shaken him up.

"Classes are cancelled today." Chloe informed me as soon as I walked in the door. I was secretly relieved.

"My mom is on her way to get me for the weekend. She wants bonding time since I lost Kai. I'll probably have plenty of dresses to give you when I get back," she snorted giving me a quick hug.

"That's great maybe my dad will stop avoiding me long enough to spend some time with me." I sighed flopping down on my bed dramatically. So maybe I was pouting, oh well. She laughed as she closed the door behind her.

I sat up and pulled the amulet out of my nightstand. I had lost my emotion attachment to it since I'd met my mother. There really wasnt any maternal connection between us. The darkness that controlled her was probably to blame.

I laid down still holding the pendant. I'd comptemplated trying to destroy it or maybe throwing it in the lake. Before I could decide which I would rather do I let sleep over take me.

Little did I know tomorrow would be the worst day of my life...
