I walked back to where my dad, Amelia, and Ian were waiting. I showed them the photograph silently. I watched as all three pairs of eyes widened in surprise.
"She said they have been talking to her. Is that even possible?" I asked glancing back to make sure she was still swinging. My dad and Amelia exchanged glances.
"It is under certain circumstances. May I go speak with her?" Amelia asked. The bubbly fairy wore a genuine look of concern on her pretty face. I nodded and lead her back to Lizzie.
"Hey, Liz, this is one of my teachers at school. She wants to talk to you about what you told me," I smiled trying not to alarm the little genius.
"You're a fairy," Lizzie noted as she eyed Amelia in wonder. I walked back towards the guys so I could give Amelia space to figure out what she needed to.
"If those shadow demons are speaking to her that can't be anything good can it?" I asked my dad. The look he had given Amelia earlier had already given me my answer.
"That's what Amelia is going to find out." That was the only answer he was willing to give me. Ian squeezed my hand in an attempt to comfort me.
We waited in silence until Amelia was finished. She finally walked back to us, hand in hand with Lizzie.
As we drove her back to the orphanage I was impatiently waiting for an explanation from Amelia. Instead I recieved only silence.
When we arrived, Mary wasted no time running out to Lizzie. It warmed my heart to watch her scoop Lizzie up in a loving embrace. It was strange not having the other children running out to greet me. I suddently wished I had visited before Tommy, Anna, and Grace had found homes.
"I can't thank you enough for bringing my baby home safe," Mary smiled at the four of us through tears. I hugged her tightly. She was the sweetest woman on the planet.
After the introductions were made it was time for another tearful goodbye. I hugged them both tightly before I left, promising to visit on better terms soon.
On the ride back Amelia still wasnt speaking. I wasnt sure if I needed to press the situation or not. Instead I laid my head on Ian's shoulder. Ever since I had found out the truth of who I was I hadnt really gotten to relax.
The school was thankfully still in one piece when we returned. I had missed Dimitri's combat class. Hopefully I could make it up tomorrow. When we all were back in my father's office I finally asked for answers.
"What did you find out?" I asked Amelia who seemed to be in a hurry to leave.
"Not anything that we need to be concerned with at the moment," she assured me. I wasnt satisfied with that answer. She scurried off to do something other than talk to me. My dad was returning all of his missed calls. Probably also to avoid giving me an explanation.
"Why are they being so weird and secretive?" I whined to Ian as we walked down the vacant hallway. Ever since the bonfire attacks the halls always seemed empty.
"I'm not sure but I bet I know someone who does." He grinned. I followed him to the combat room where Dimitri was kicking the punching bag.
"Better late than never, I suppose," he greeted us. He paused from his kicks to pull his shoulder length hair into a ponytail. I quickly explained why we missed class minus the shadow demon part.
"I just assumed you two were off making out somewhere," he joked throwing a punch into the defenseless bag.
"Haha very funny." Ian snorted.
"You guys want to train?" He asked pushing the punching bag aside and stepping onto the ugly green mat.
"Sure," I replied joining him on the mat. Ian leaned against the wall and watched as I let all of my frustrations out on Dimitri.
It seemed that no matter what tricks Dimitri had, today he was the one hitting the mat. He looked shocked every time I took him down but still jumped back up for more.
"I surrender," he cried finally throwing his hands in the air. He rested his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
"What's wrong, old man?" I grinned triumphantly. He shot me an annoyed look before grinning.
"That was pretty good, Salvatore. Now its Ian's turn to get his butt kicked!"
Ian stepped onto the mat with an amused expression.
"Take it easy on me, beautiful," he winked.
It wasnt long before he also surrendered. Both men sank into nearby chairs in exhaustion. I could feel the power that surged through me intensifying. I was finally getting stronger.
"Remind me to never make you mad," Ian breathed laying his head back against the wall with his eyes clothes. Sweat drenched his raven colored hair. I let out a laugh as I made my way over to Dimitri's refrigerator.
I tossed them each a blood bag before gulping down my own. The sweetly bitter metallic taste was refreshing. I could feel my strength being revived with every drink.
"Do you remember when you talked about Shadow Demons in class, Dimitri?" I asked once we bad all three taken time to rest.
"Yeah," he answered.
"Is it possible for them to talk to humans?"
"No, the only people they can communicate with are Hades and any of his children. Why do you ask?"
My world came to a complete screeching stop. Ian and I exchanged looks of horror as we came to the one and only conclusion. Lizzie was a demi-demon.
