I may have not spent much time with my mother but I'd already learned one thing, she loved spoiling happy moments. She gracefully sat in the empty chair at our table.

"I can't believe you decided to have a family day and not invite me!" She joked her eyes glued to my fathers handsome face.

"Seriously, Anna, can you ever show up at a bad time for once?" he snapped pushing his plate away. I was no longer hungry either.

"I think you two are pretty selfish. I mean your school is being torn to pieces as we speak and here you are just having fun."

"What are you talking about?" I growled jumping to my feet.

We rushed out of the restaurant with the sound of her wicked laugh echoing behind us.

I had hoped she was bluffing but the flames engulfing the school informed me she wasnt. Shadow Demons flew everywhere diving at anyone trying to escape. I spotted Dimitri fighting with a vampire I didn't recognize.

Vampires were everywhere attacking anyone that they could get their hands on.

"I'm going to find Amelia. Help anyone you can, Josie." My dad shouted over all the commotion.

A large vampire lunged at me but I was too fast for him. With my fangs flashing at him in anger I sent him flying through the air with as much fire as I could summon.

The next vampire almost caught me by surprise but I had his heart in the palm of my hand in a flash. I threw it to the side and ran to help Dimitri. We stood back to back fighting off the neverending flow of enemies.

Before I knew it I was drenched in blood from head to toe. Once the numbers dwindled down I paused to take in what was happening. Bodies lay scattered as far as I could see. Some were students but most of them were the trespassing vampires.

"Where is Ian?" I asked Dimitri as he shot his crossbow quickly taking out his attacker.

"In the woods with the werewolves. Their trying to draw the Shadow Demons away." He fired another shot and hit another vamp in the heart. The guy fell with a loud thud.

There was so much going on that I couldnt focus. I saw Evelyn in the distance trying to control the fire that was consuming the school. I ran to her and conjured as much water as nature could give me. It crashed onto the school like a large wave. The fire went out and then blazed right back up.

"Its no use. It's a very powerful dark spell," Evelyn sighed.

I took off towards the woods. The vampire army had dwindled down to just a handful of men. It was nothing Dimitri couldn't handle.

When I reached the clearing I was pleasantly surprised to see Ian leading everyone in battle. Everytime a Shadow demon dove at someone, they rolled out of the way. I immediately started firing at the demons.

Soon Amelia, Dimitri, Merrick, and my dad were fighting along side of us. The surviving students used any gifts they had to fight back.

All at once everything went quiet. I looked up to see my mother strutting into the clearing as if she ruled the world.

"Now the party can begin," she giggled. She flicked her hand and the demons went back to their terrorizing. More vampires came into the clearing behind my mother.

She watched the fighting continue as if she was watching a movie. Just as it would look like we were winning more vampires and demons would appear.

I could feel my magic wearing down as my strength faded. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched several vampires gang up on Dimitri. I lunged at them with what strength I had left. I ripped the closest ones heart from his chest. His eyes bulged in shock as he fell to the ground.

The next one slammed me to the ground. I tried to conjured up some magic but my strength was failing me. I closed my eyes as I saw the flash of his fangs going for my neck. Instead of him biting into me he slumped onto the ground beside me.

I looked up to see Ian holding his heart.

"Now we're even," he winked tossing the heart aside. It landed in the grass with a sickening plop.

"Not even close," I replied. We went back to fighting.

As if everyone could sense my strength diminishing, they formed a circle around me. Dimitri and my dad were dropping vampires left and right. Amelia and Ian were distracting the Shadow Demons while I caught my breath.

No amount of training could've prepared me for this. I'd went from an innocent girl from an orphanage to a full blown assassin. My mother was still posed in the same spot watching the action.

Amelia turned to me suddently holding out her wrist. I stared back in confusion.

"You need to drink." She explained calmly.

"I dont really want to be intoxicated right now but thanks."

"Just enough to get your strength up. It won't intoxicate you in a small amount." She laughed.

I would've refused but I knew I needed an energy boost now. I'd never actually fed on anyone before. My fangs pierced her wrist effortlessly. Fairy blood oddly tasted fruity. She pulled her wrist away when she judged I'd had just the right amount.

I immediately felt the energizing effects. Now it was time to kill a dark witch.
