The atmosphere in the Interrogation room was heavy and tense as the room was windowless, small and bare with its black walls. Percival sat opposite from Newt at an interrogation desk, a file open in front of him. Newt squinted forward as there was a bright light shining into his eyes. (Y/n) stood behind Graves with her head hung low and hands clasped in front of her. Tina stood behind Newt, flanked by the two executioners. Tina looked at (Y/n) and noticed how exhausted she looked, but she also took notice at how forlorned and sad she looked as well while looking at Percival, who looked unbothered and ignoring (Y/n). Tina feels deep down that Percival must've done something to (Y/n) long before this mess had started, and she didn't like it. "You're an interesting man, Mr. Scamander." Percival finally spoke up, breaking the silence as Tina stepped forward.
"Mr. Graves-" She starts before Percival placed a finger to his lips, signaling Tina to be silent. The gesture was patronizing but authoritive, making Tina look kowtowed and quietly obey as she stepped back into the shadows. Percival takes a look at the file again that sat on his desk.
"You were thrown out of Hogwarts for endangering human life-"
"That was an accident!" Newt exclaimed before Percival continued.
"-with a beast. Yet one of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion." Percival stated before leaning forward a bit and clasping his hands together, "Now, what makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you?"
"I really couldn't say." Newt answered.
"So setting a pack of dangerous creatures loose here was just another accident, is that right?" Percival asked as Newt frowned a tiny bit.
"Why would I do it deliberately?"
"To expose wizardkind. To provoke war between the magical and non-magical worlds."
"Mass slaughter for the greater good, you mean?" Newt inquired as Percival nodded.
"Yes. Quite." This makes Newt scoff slightly.
"I'm not one of Grindelwald's fanatics, Mr. Graves." Newt deadpanned. A tiny change of expression from Percival indicates that Newt had hit a nerve, Percival starting to look more menacing.
"I wonder what you can tell me about this, Mr. Scamander." Percival said, managing to keep his cool and stay level headed. With a slow move of his hand, he brings up the Obscurus from Newt's case and moves it onto the desk as it pulsed, swirled and hissed. Tina stared at the Obscurus in disbelief as (Y/n) grimaced, softly biting her lips together. Percival, however, looks at it in fascination and brings his hand over to it in which the Obscurus begins to swirl faster, bubble and shrink backwards away from his hand. Newt instinctively turns around to look at Tina as if she's the one he wants to convince without realizing it.
"It's an Obscurus." He said and notices the look on her face, "But it's not what you think. I managed to separate it from the Sudanese girl as I tried to save her-I wanted to take it home, to study it-" Tina gives a look of shock as Newt tried to explain himself further, "But it cannot survive outside that box, it could not hurt anyone, Tina!"
"So it's useless without the host?" Percival asked out loud without noticing that he did. This makes (Y/n) look at Percival in confusion, thinking why he would ask that out of all things. Newt and Tina look at him in confusion as well.
" 'Useless...?' " Newt murmured, confused and perplexed, " 'Useless?' That is a parasitical magical force that killed a child. What on earth would you use it for?" He asked as anger began to boil inside of him while staring at Percival. Tina and (Y/n), reacting to the atmosphere, also look at Percival with concern and trepidation written across their faces. (Y/n) took a slight step forward him, her brows furrowed together.
"What's going on that you're not telling me, Percival...?" She asked softly, anxiety rising within her as she stared at her fiancé, who was now being almost interrogated because of his suspicious slip up. He too realizes his mistake as he stood and brushed off the questions, turning the blame back on Newt.
"You fool nobody, Mr. Scamander. You brought this Obscurus into the city of New York in the hope of causing mass destruction- breaking the Statute of Secrecy and revealing the magical world-"
"You know that can't hurt anyone, you know that!" Newt exclaimed as Tina and (Y/n) between everyone with panic as Percival continued.
"-you are therefore guilty of a treacherous betrayal of your fellow wizards and are sentenced to death. Miss Goldstein, who has aided and abetted you-"
"No, she's done nothing of the kind-" Newt argued as (Y/n) stepped up in an attempt to intervene.
"Percival." She said anxiously as he ignored her.
"-she receives the same sentence." He said as the two executioners step forward while calmly and intrusively press the tips of their wands against Newt and Tina's necks. Both Tina and (Y/n) are overcome with shock and fear that they both can barely speak. Percival looks at the executioners and waves them off, "Just do it immediately. I will inform President Picquery myself." Newt looks at Tina desperately.
"Tina." (Y/n) grabs Percival's shirt sleeve urgently.
"Percival!" She exclaimed as Percival placed a finger on his lips again.
"Shhh," He hushed while waving them off again, "Please." He said as the executioners took Newt and Tina away. (Y/n)'s mind races as she looked desperately at Oercival, who was unfazed by his sentence. This makes her blood boil as she and him both know that he's in the wrong.
"You can't do that, Percival. That's against the rules and our policy! You can't just abuse your power like this!" She exclaimed as he glared at her.
"Do you want to join them?" He asked with a slight sneer and this makes her freeze in shock. (Y/n) stares at him with wide eyes and a look of disbelief on her face by his words. "Well?" He growled impatiently.
"How?" She said, anger boiling faster than before, "How could you just ask that? To me? Your fiancé! What the hell has gotten into you?!" Tears brimmed her eyes as she felt her heart break, "They didn't do anything wrong and you go and sentence them to death. And then you ask me if I want to be executed as well for defending them!"
"You know the law, (Y/n)." He said.
"And you know this is not what MACUSA does to those wrongly accused of being guilty!" (Y/n) said with a scowl, "You know this just as damn well than I do and here you are tarnishing our moral code like some psycho!" Percival grabs her face in his hand and forcefully yanks her closer to him.
"What did I say back at the apartment?" He snarled as his grip got tighter, "Know your place in line and keep your mouth shut." Percival loomed his face over hers menacingly, "Do I need to punish you again for you to learn?" She stayed silent while glaring up at him angrily and tears brimming her eyes, he takes the silence as her understanding his words, "That's what I thought. Now, be an obedient little Auror and be quiet. Whatever I say goes. Got it?" He growled as (Y/n) stayed silent again and he clicks his tongue and let's go of her aggressively and strides out of the room. She watches him leave and bites her cheek hard as she tried to hold back the tears that were on the verge of falling. Ignoring the pain in her heart, she clenched her hands into fists and scowled.
"I'm sorry, but I can't just let you get away with this, Percival." (Y/n) growled while her wand slid out of her sleeve into her hand, "I'm gonna fight, even if it means that it'll break us apart. You sentenced my maid of honor to death, I can't let that slide." She growled before storming out of the room and walking in strides. (Y/n) needed to save Tina and Newt. She needed to get to the bottom of this endless spiral.
