Recalling the Past

Things at this school have gotten weird. Ever since the new principal has been here, or headmaster, whatever... it's just been a whole different atmosphere.

This often led to me leaving. I'd now gotten detention after detention for ditching school, but there's only so much the headmaster can do. At this point, if he wanted to get rid of me, he would have done so already.

So here I am, taking a walk through the forest, getting some fresh air. It can be hard to with the craziness going on. As I was walking, I reached the old mill.

Weird. Lizzie is here. And she's talking to no one. She's talking to thin air. "I'm Lizzie." She says, looking like she seriously is talking to someone.

I look around, keeping quiet. This is not good. I mean, I've known Lizzie awhile now, so I know how her mental health can be. Obviously she isn't doing well right now, since she's imagining things.

"Lizzie?" I question, slowly walking into the entrance of the old mill. She quickly turns around and smiles at me. That's a first. "Um, who were you talking to?"

"You heard-"

"Lizzie! I'm so sorry I'm late." MG comes racing into the old mill, looking between Lizzie and I awkwardly.

"Um." I mumble awkwardly. "I'm gonna go."

"No. You should stay. I was just about to gather things for a spell." Lizzie replies, smiling in a dazed sort of way.

"I'm okay. Weird question, but... can I talk to you later?" I ask, looking at Lizzie. My brows furrows as my concern deepens.

She looks at me happily. "Yes."

Weirdly enough, Lizzie set up a time for me to meet her tonight. I can't express my concern more than anything. Although Lizzie can be annoying and selfish, she is also my friend. We have that love hate sort of friendship. So, it's my job to make sure she's okay.

"Lizzie." I knock on her bedroom door softly, hoping she wasn't with the made up friend she was talking to earlier.

"Come in." She replies cheerfully.

"This is weird." I mumble, opening the door slowly. "Liz..." I walk towards her bed and sit down next to her. "Um. Can we talk about this guy."

"Sebastian?" She asks, looking way more enthusiastic than normal. She leans towards me earnestly.

"Mhm. That's the one." I reply, looking concerned. "Um. Was he the one you were talking to at the old mill?"

"He's the one!" She laughs. "You're the only one who knows what he looks like besides me." She frowns. "What were you doing in the forest anyway?"

"That's besides the point." I wave my hand aside. "Lizzie, I don't know how to say this, but I didn't see anyone."

"What are you talking about?" She asks, her smile faltering.

I hesitantly put my hand over hers. "There wasn't anyone there. I didn't see anyone, I didn't hear anyone..."

"Don't make fun of me like that." She replies, her mood instantly changing. She rips her hand away from mine. "My mental health is all that matters to me right now. It's all I have. Don't joke around like that with me."

"Liz..." I mumble, frowning.

"No." She snaps. "Get out." She points to the door. I wait a moment, hoping she'd give me another chance. "Get out!"

I shake my head before leaving the room. Something is definitely wrong and I intend to help Lizzie, even if she doesn't want my help.

Maybe it's time to visit the old headmaster. Besides, I'm so sick of our new headmaster.
