The rest of the day went by, you couldn't remember the other half of the day after the alleyway. Now it was midnight and you had managed to make your way home unnoticed, using the cover of night and avoided the police officers and your neighbours with what you would want to say was sheer luck but eerily Alastor seemed to have planned it out, as if he's done this multiple times before and that downright terrified you. Doubt filled your mind as you couldn't help but wonder, were all those late nights at work really.. Like in the alley way?
You slipped off your white coat that had turned red like your dress, of course unnaturally so. Alastor hummed the melody from before, where you had been dancing the other morning before you went out. To the alley. "Darling?" Alastor tilted his head, looking at you as he had taken off his coat as well and set it down. The radio host was looking at you with concern, "Are you cold?" He asked and you strained a smile, nodding to his question. Once he looked away, you didn't even notice your hand was shaking and you used your other hand to grasp your wrist as you tried to calm down but your body was tense and mind was screaming at you that there was danger. That Alastor was dangerous, to run away and get as far away as possible from the man who you thought was your husband but now. It wasn't the man who you fell in love with, wasn't it?
This man. Was someone else completely. Not your sweet, gentle Alastor from the radio station.
You closed your eyes, letting out a shaky exhale while forcing your body to just relax as much as possible. Once you opened your eyes, Alastor has returned and had a blanket with him and you thought you would just snatch it from him as soon as he offered it to you but that wasn't what Alastor had in mind. He walked towards, then around you then placed the blanket over your shoulders. "The house should be warming up anytime soon. You must be thirsty after all that walking we did." He told you with the same warm smile, but now with you really looking at him there was a different feeling to it. "No. Thank you." Alastor shook his head, taking your jacket and went to take care of it. Like he took care of the bodies as well.. "Nonsense. Give me a moment, dearest."
You held the blanket close to you, nervously walking over to the couch and sitting down then hugged yourself and buried your face into the fabric, inhaling the scent to try and centre yourself with the familiarity. There was the sound of something being set down in front of you on the coffee table, you opened your eyes there was Alastor's brown and he still had the same easy going smile as before, the man offered you the mug and you took it with a small nod of thanks. There was silences between the both of you, you held the cup in front of you while curled up in the blanket. "Alastor? Why did you do it?" You finally asked.
There was no response, you stated into your cup as you couldn't bring yourself to look at the man in front of you. The air between you and your husband was tense, suffocating and filled with a lot of anxiety. "Why not?" He answered simply after a lot of thought. Your eyes widen, looking up at him with disbelief and searching his face for any expression of remorse, for anything. "You killed those men." Alastor began to laugh, deeply and sounding amused. The sound would've brought you joy, and you would've looked at him with so much affection but now his laughter set your nerves to high gear. "You aren't innocent in that regard either, my dear (Y/N). You've killed too." Alastor waved his hand, grinning.
You opened your mouth to argue, but you couldn't find the words and then you looked away in shame off to the side and looked at the ground like it was interesting. "I'm sorry, I know you didn't mean to." Alastor added, as he walked around the coffee table then sat next to you and you uncomfortably shuffled away instinctively and this made the brunette's smile to fall slightly before he smiled wider again. "You're revolted by me now, aren't you." He said like it wasn't a question, but that he knew the answer already. You didn't answer, Alastor gave a small nod as he glanced away for a moment.
Suddenly Alastor grasped one of your hands and you almost dropped the mug but caught yourself, now you were facing your husband. He didn't make any movements, still holding your hand, he just watched for your reaction and smiled pleasantly. "Why did you do it?" You asked again, your voice began to crack as tears began to well up in your eyes as you felt the rush of frustration and sadness come back tenfold. "Why, isn't it obvious? To protect you." Alastor chuckled as your question was silly, he nodded and let go of your hand and you instantly pulled it back to your chest. "We are married afterall." He stood up to leave to continue whatever he did, you sat in place and watched him carefully.
"Alastor?" You asked, voice still shaky as you didn't know how to feel about everything that happened. Slowly making eye contact with him. "You aren't going to hurt me, right?" As the question left your mouth, Alastor stopped in his tracks then looked at you, his eyes held something murderous in his gaze. You couldn't help but feel uneasy as you wanted him to look away, or to hide almost as the look looked eerily similar to what he had given the thugs when he killed them. "No, of course not." Alastor gave you a grin, as he tilted his head slightly. "I would never let anything or anyone harm you, I did promise that at our wedding, did I not?."
That didn't make you feel too reassured but it calmed your nerves to an extent. "Okay." You gave him a small sad smile then took a sip of the drink finally, "Thank you.." Alastor stepped back towards you, then placed a hand on the side of your face to cup your cheeks. "Always." Then leaned down, you closed your eyes and expected a kiss but it didn't come. Instead you felt him press his lips against the top of your head, like he usually would. He hardly actually kissed you, unless it was your wedding or something special..
You kept your eyes shut, just listening to what he would do next. Pull away, perhaps? You wondered. But after he kissed your head, he stayed there for a moment then begun to pull away like you predicted and as you began to relax. The feeling of something pressing against your lips, your breath hitched as Alastor kissed you firmly and again you melted into his touch. Almost instantly forgetting what transpired, moments ago and earlier today..
But as he pulled away, Alastor fondly rubbed your cheek with his thumb and you opened your eyes to meet his cool gaze. "You should get some rest, my love." He soothed as you felt yourself getting more tired with every word he spoke, it was late and you were exhausted. Just maybe when you woke up everything would've just been a dream. But the feeling of uneasiness lingered as you began to doze off.
