Why was he here? What did he want from me? Nakul was a bad omen. He's always been a bully since the day I was born.
And I hate him so much.
With that pathetic smile of his, he walked to the kitchen and stood in front of me. Sure, he was tall, handsome and well dressed. But he was an ass.
I was shorter to him. But I wanted to show him that I wasn't afraid of him. Before I could say anything, he joked, "What's up Pink Panther?"
He was referring to my baby pink dress. If only he knew what fashion and style meant!
I then heard barking noises. Definitely, that was Bruno. He hated Nakul too. Bruno came near Nakul and started growling and barking like a mad dog. The people in the party noticed that something was wrong. Harsh walked near Gauri and started asking her questions. Rajat just stood still and maybe was trying to understand everything? I didn't care. At that time, I wanted to save myself.
Nakul was sick of the barking. So he shouted, "Oh shut up, Brownie!"
I rolled my eyes and corrected, "Its Bruno. Do you think I'd ever name my dog Brownie?"
I picked up Bruno in my arms. He stopped barking but the growling went on. I continued, "And you don't get to talk to my dog like that!"
Nakul made a face like ,'Really, you're gross.' Then the smirk came back. So, I asked him, "What do you want?"
He laughed a fake laugh and said, "Come on! Its Gauri's birthday. She's my sister too. So I came here to wish her."
I looked at Gauri over Nakul's shoulder and asked, "Did you invite him?"
Gauri looked scared and said, "No way. I didn't."
I trusted Gauri. She would never lie to me. That meant that Nakul wanted something from me. So, I asked him again, "Look, what do you want?"
He rested his arms on my shoulder even though I tried to free myself from it. He said proudly, "You're gonna be an uncle soon."
What! Did he come here to tell me this? He didn't even invite me to his wedding! Why would he tell me this?
One side of me wanted to be happy. I was gonna be an uncle. But the other side said that you're gonna be an uncle of arrogant child. Yep, having both parents who were proud of themselves, the child would definitely be arrogant. I could predict it.
But for the moment, I looked down at his imported shoes and said in a deep voice, "Congratulations."
When I looked up at his face, he was smiling and said, "I can smell jealousy!"
I was not jealous. Not even 0.000000000001% jealous. I made a disgusted face and said, "Are you kidding me? I'm not jealous of you! Sorry for informing that, brother."
He laughed again and then almost whispered, "Look what I've got. I've got a huge company, a beautiful wife, a baby on our way, loads of money. But what about you?"
I was disgusted. He loved to play the comparison game. I mean, it was the only game he could win. I had no love life, not much in my savings account and I was still working on reaching success.
So I lied, "I've got happiness which you will never have."
I dropped Bruno and gestured Gauri to take him inside. She literally dragged Bruno to her bedroom.
Nakul looked serious yet he had a stupid smile on his face that me made feel like punching him. He said, "That's the language of a loser! Tell me one thing, Nik. Are you really happy in your life?"
