It's been about 6 days of being bed bound, but I have been moving my legs little by little how Azriel told me to. Gravity is taking less a toll on me and I can sit up without leaning on the pillows, I can lean on my arms, my wings are so light compared to my arms so I have been using them to help push me up to sit up everyday. I know that things will be slow but at least I am healing and Azriel assures me that I am healing much faster than the average person. I don't like sitting so still when I tire out though. The injections make me hyper and want to move more but the pains and effort to move the things I want to overwhelms it, like my arms and legs are tied with anchors. Still I manage to get up every day, even if I don't do anything more than have Azriel hold me up while I get my balance then take three steps and get back in bed, it's something, time feels slow but at least I can tell it's passing now. There's a clock in my room so I watch it tick by when I'm too tired to move or can't sleep. It's the middle of the day when I see Azriel bringing in lunch, it looks good and I sit up while he sets up the tray.
"So you have been doing very well but I want to try something a little new today. You have to get up, without my help, and sit at the table. If you can do that, you can call up your dad right after you eat. Deal?" He says, putting my grilled cheese and turkey sandwich at the small table on the other side of the room. I groan a bit but decide that it's better to fall and have sore knees than sit around another day with nothing happening.
"Alright, deal. Can you atleast help me sit up, that's alot harder for me?" I ask, holding out my arms and trying to not push myself with my wings.
"Yes I can, but the rest has to be you, no rush." He says, helping me to sit up and turn to face off the bed. I was about to grab his arm when he pulls it away. I don't fall but my feet having to push back all my weight does set loose a groan. I manage to stand up and get walking one step at a time. It feels so odd to walk on my own now. It doesn't hurt like I thought it might. My wings can't even be bothered to not drag behind me but that's the least of my worries. I get to the table just fine and it dawns on me that I could have done this sooner if that hurt as little as it just did.
I sit down slowly, smiling and relaxing in the chair for a bit. Azriel smiles to me and goes to get his breakfast too. My jaw has gotten strong enough I can have more solid foods so Azriel cooks a lot of the same stuff for us both. He sits down next to me with some food I didn't know the names off but looked really good.
"Hey if I can walk to the computer without falling, dad said I could call him again. So can I try after some food and you show me how to? Pleeeaaasee? I have so many questions for him!" I ask, excited at the thought of getting to ask everything that's been on my mind. I want to know more about demons, about why I look how I do, maybe even about what my mother was like.
"After we finish eating, you can talk to him. But after we should talk about what to change in your appearance so that we don't have the tower people looking for you. Not that they should, but your general appearance was never hidden to the public. People will know you are... the girl from the tower and that's bad, do you understand?" Azriel says, sounding a lot more serious than usual. I nod and it comes to mind that if the wrong people spot me they might try to make me go back to the orb and that is never going to happen to me again. Me and Azriel eat in peace for a while, both finishing quietly and he turns in the seat to face me.
"Do you have anything you know you want to do right now, ways that will make recognizing you harder?" He asks me.
"Alright well.. There is one thing I want to do." I say, fiddling with my ears a little.
"Oh and what's that?" Azriel asks.
"I want to get my ears pierced. I'll show you on the computer." I say, holding the table as I get up. I don't feel too much pain and walk over to the desk. I sit down and quickly get onto the internet browser, I look up the gauge earrings I want, also finding a picture of an ear with a lot of piercings.
