The Backstabber

Roxanne pulled the trigger. I watched as the bullets fly through the air. All time slowed down but there was still nothing I could possibly do. Then it hits the wall right next to this guys head. She missed on purpose. I managed to convince her not to kill him.

"And the media says I don't save people well guess what mate you are now living proof I do." I said to this scumbag. Roxanne was there speechless and still full of rage I could tell by her eyes. Then I heard people running towards us from down the hall. Time to go. I guided Roxanne to the window and got her out on the fire escape. Once we got on the ground and out of sight I called the cops and told them to come to that building.

"Why did you have to come." She asked.

"I couldn't let you get hurt." I answered.

"It's your fault that he isn't dead. You stopped me when you shouldn't had. You should've just let me kill him." She said.

"What would that accomplish. It won't help in any way I've been there. A while back before I became the Bird a old friend of mine was protecting me. He even put my life before him and sacrificed himself to save me. Later on I got the guy that killed my friend killed. It didn't make anything better if anything it made it worse. I was expecting so much relief after I did it but when the time came nothing changed. Now these guys may seem like they deserve it but none of them really do. One thing we need to do is learn to control ourselves and not kill. I saw the look in your eyes. If I wasn't there you would've shot him to bits. So you are off the team and if I see you in costume again I will get you arrested." I said to her.

"No you can't just kick me off the team like this. Before you came along I was leading it hell I was the one that put it all together. Now you are just going to come in take charge and leave me out." She argued.

"Not to be so harsh but yes that's exactly what I'm going to do." I responded.

"You backstabber." She called me. Then she walked off.

After that I started waking home myself. I changed out of costume because I was heading to my shitty apartment. While I was walking home I couldn't stop thinking about Roxanne. That look in her eyes. She has the look of a killer. The look I've only seen on one person. Luke had that same look after I killed his partner. Revenge can make a person go crazy and whatever I do I can't let it consume me. If I find my family's killer I have to strictly keep it as justice not revenge. I don't even know what I'd do if I get out of control like that. I can't turn into a killer like that and I hope Roxanne doesn't either. She is better then that I know it but it depends if she see's herself that way too. The next few days were pretty quiet we started getting new members joining our team and it was getting pretty big. At this point they'd only go on patrols with us and weren't allowed to know who we are or where our base was. There was no sign of Roxanne either which was good. Everything was good I even started getting along with Adam and Flynn more.

"Hey Evan I know your patrol is finished and everything but do you want to join us on our patrol." Flynn asked.

"Yea we could use an extra pair of hands out there. Things have been quiet for a while and I just have a feeling things aren't going to stay like that." Adam said.

"OK sure. I have nothing better to do anyway." I replied. So we went on our way. I told them about what happened with Roxanne after that happened. They seemed hesitant to trust me but they ended up trusting me. If they didn't it would've created more problems. They might have gone back to Roxanne and started another team without me. Luckily that didn't happen. While walking we heard screaming coming from an alleyway. Always the alleyways. Maybe people should just stay out of them. I ran in there but the other two stayed back a bit. I think they were a bit scared or thought I could handle it myself. Like Adam said it's been quiet lately. I walked further down and there was nothing. Something isn't right here. Then I felt something hit the back of my head. Someone swung something at me. It was hard and a very good swing. My head was pounding and my vision went blurry. From what I could see was Adam and Flynn standing over me. With a girl in the middle. Roxanne. God damn backstabbers. Should've just gone lone wolf. Then Roxanne swings again knocking me out. I was only unconscious for roughly five minutes. Still long enough for them to get away. They just left me in the alley. I have to go tell Tyler about them. From what I've gathered about him I don't think he'd be in on this too. Which means they could go after him. So I walked all the way back to HQ hoping nobody else is there except Tyler.

Once I got there and opened the door I saw the place was trashed. Tyler was gone and there was signs of struggle. This wasn't Roxanne and the guys though. If they went after Tyler they would have to get him by surprise there's no way they could've taken him down in a fist fight. No these were professionals. Who would want to come after us. Especially someone that has enough power, resources and money for a job like this. I went and looked at the security cameras. I saw Tyler training in the HQ. While he was training men started swarming the area. He was out numbered. There were at least twelve guys. Even I would be luckily to get out of that. They beat him up pretty bad to the point he couldn't stand up. He did put up a decent fight though. Then someone else walks in. Simon fucking Chester. That little wimp. They dragged Tyler out and put him in a limo. They drove off and that's all I could see. I don't know where they took him but at least I know he was alive when they took him. I skipped the footage forward a bit and saw the other three come in and find the mess. They slowly figured out that Simon was behind this. Simon left behind what looks like a note that Roxanne took. It probably has the location. Oh no. She is going after Frank Chester and if she kills him that'll cause a lot of chaos. Most people see him as a good person. Nobody knows about the secret side of him. If we were to bring him down we'd have to find hard evidence behind him. I can't just let Roxanne kill him. Who knows what will happen. I'm all by myself and I can't do this by myself. Guess this means I have to apologise to some people.
